If Brochu impresses enough in the ECHL this season, he could be part of Bakersfield's tandem next season. Pickard I think moves on next summer, or the Oilers could include him in a trade package to a team that could use a veteran as a back-up during this coming season. Rodrigue is most likely the Oilers' #3 for this season, and they may want to keep him depending on whether Campbell can improve his game from last season or not. But with all 3 goalies making less than $1M in the AHL, any of then could be moved before the trade deadline.
Bringing in your own personal is how you take responsibility and accountability. I believe these moves are about a shift in direction and new systems, drafting is more important then ever especially with the salary cap era. There are not many people who will look back at these management moves as the ah ha moment but it’s important to confident with your staff! Picking up a undrafted goaltender for the ECHL team is a fairly low risk for the organization again it’s the coaching and mentoring that’s helps these players turn the corner.
I think they need to make a goalie coach change. As for Brochu if he continues to progress and impresses everyone in the Oilers organization I see him in a jersey soon. I’m just scratching at the walls for this frickin season to start!!!
