Really hoping this kid can be the next steal. Feel like we haven’t had a meaningful pick outside the top 60, never mind top 100, in a long time. Engvall is probably the last one to provide mid-6 production (and he was about as divisive a player you could find lol). Holmberg will be a player, but will he be more than a 3rd/4th liner? Would just be real nice to have a top-6 contributor come out of nowhere the way most teams get every few years.

I’m a big Greb(yon/en)kin believer. It’s tough to make the KHL at his age, and he’s in amongst some pretty notable names:

Best 19-year-old seasons in KHL history by points:

    1: Kaprizov: 42 PTS, 49 GP

    2: Kuznetsov: 41 PTS, 49 GP

    3: Buchnevich: 30 PTS, 48 GP

    4: Grebyonkin: 26 PTS, 52 GP

    5: Filatov: 22 PTS, 26 GP

    6: Kravtsov: 21 PTS, 50 GP

    7: Panarin: 21 PTS, 40 GP

    8: Tarasenko: 19 PTS, 42 GP

Now obviously I’m not saying he’s the next Panarin, and if you change it to points per game, he drops to 11th all time (min. 20GP), but from a 5th rounder, that’s pretty amazing. I’m looking forward to seeing what he does next season, is he a flash in the pan or the real thing?

On a more sombre note, when I was clicking around in QuantHockey looking at these stats, Amirov was on the list at 28th. Fuck cancer, Rest In Peace Rodion.
