In an interview with Elliotte Friedman, Canucks forward Elias Pettersson stated that he was in no rush to sign a contract extension with the team.
Instead, he wants to focus on getting off to a good start with the club after an offseason in which he’s been focusing on gaining strength and building muscle.

Petey knows his value, knowing as well his next contract should be the best of his career. He wants to see as well if the Canucks got the potential to reach the playoffs! Petey wants to be in a team/organization that are able to win something! Pressure is on everyone at the Canucks, and that is good! I'm looking forward to the new season. Come on Canucks!

Petterson will bet on himself and drag the negotiations out as long as possible to get the best deal for himself. Exactly like when he resigned after his entry level deal. He is comfortable playing hard ball and we should all be ready for a long negotiation.

I think what he said was a lot. Makes me think he is in it for the long run. That it will get done and does not want to be distracted on the season ahead.

The longer Petey's status is unknown, the longer the distraction for the team.
Canucks can't afford another disastrous start — and uncertainty only adds to unwanted drama.
Remember how that played out with Boudreau & Horvat.
A poor start will guarantees that Petey wants out.
As a pro player, it would be in his best interest.
As Miller said, last year was a "S___-Show".
Unfortunately, as a Canucks fan losing Petey would REALLY suck.
