Glad we could shut up all the stupid speculation that he wanted to go home to Arizona. This is a man who fucking loves the spotlight. Can you imagine Auston playing 41 games a year in a fucking college rink?

Those same people who hate the Leafs and thought Matthews would leave as a UFA for Arizona, are the same people who are bashing Treliving for only giving Matthews 4 years and $13.25 million AAV. However, if he signed that exact same contract with any other team, I’m sure those same people would claim what a great deal that was.
I guess all the redditors on the cesspool r/hockey are wrong? Honestly even though they’re very similar, r/nhl is way more reasonable and discussion friendly.
It’s funny how the responses from other fan bases have already changed from “He’ll never re-sign in Toronto, no matter what! Arizona has a better chance to get him!” to “LOL he’s not worth that! And he’ll be gone once that contract is up! Guaranteed! He only signed for four years so he clearly doesn’t want to be there long term! LMAO!”
