If the Sabres trade for Hanifin or equivalent and sign him long term, then in the 2027-2028 season we would have terrible cap issues. Levi, Quinn, Kulich, Krebs, Peterka, Savoie, Benson and Rosen would all be on their second contracts. Yes, a few of these players would probably be gone by 2027, but if 5 of them remain, we are in cap trouble if Hanifin is signed long term. Even with Skinner's $9M gone, the team would be well over the cap. Trading for Hanifin, Pesce, Hellebuyck, etc. would be violating Adams' policy of building through the draft. I doubt this happens, unless Hanifin would sign for 3 years, which IMO is highly unlikely.

Getting Hannifin would be basically telling any left handed defender in the system they won’t be playing for Sabres this decade 😂
This coming from a guy that is Right handed and played the Left D, I was more comfortable there but not everyone can do it. At some point it does matter the righty lefty thing just not an end all be all. IMO
I can only hope we get rid of the Joker and obtain Hanafin! I would easily add Olofson, and one of our recent diminutive 1st round picks to get a deal done….hell, give them Bryson too

Unfortunately, I think we are set for now. Ollie isn't going this year nor is Joker. I think Ollie plays out his contract. Joker, I believe gets one more crack at it like UPL.
The only way I see them giving up Hanifin for Olofsson and Jokiharju is if we retain half of Olofsson’s salary to make it work for their Cap. Maybe throw in the 4th we got for Lyubushkin.
I really don’t think there will be anymore moves right now. Hanifin would be great but not gonna hold my breath.

The cap space is so they can pick up Pat Kane, they need him to come back to Buffalo to bite a woman again and beat up a Taxi driver.
Trade Deadline will be busy for Adams. If a trade is made I feel it will be happening around then.

Agree about our prospects . All teams are aware of the Sabres ' talented prospects so teams in rebuilds , partial rebuilds & in,need of goal scorers will be interested in making deals.. Thanx Wayne
Wayne, I think you're looking into it too much. Sure, Adams can be after some player, but I doubt he traded Lyubuskin just to have space. For example, if they were after Hanifin, why would they trade Lyubushkin to later trade for Hanifin? They could use him in that trade. I think Verbeek was just interested in Lyubushkin, because it is exactly his type of a player, so they traded him to Anaheim. I think there is not much interest in Jokiharju or Bryson, to be honest.
The Lyubushkin trade not only frees up some cap space, but also just because of the logjam on Buffalo's blueline after signing Clifton and Johnson. They still have 8 NHL-level defensemen after the trade.
Wayne , ADAMS HAS NOT DONE ENOUGH TO IMPROVE THE TEAM. THEY STILL NEED A PHYSICAL FORWARD , AND A GOALIE. THE TRADING of Lyubushkin iS A HEAD SCRATCHER,WHY TRADE ONE OF THE ONLY PHYSICAL DEFENSEMAN ON THE TEAM . ADAMS IS ACTING LIKE HE THINKS THAT THIS TEAM IS ELITE .

I dont think the Lybushkin deal was to make cap space it was because the Sabres had 9 D men on their roster. I think they are going with 13 forwards , 8 D and 2 goalies this season .
Id love to see Adams trade Jokiharju , Bryson and Oloffsson before the season but i dont think Adams moves any of them until the trade deadline. The Only move i see Adams making before the start of the season is Comrie being waived to Rochester which means Adams is going with UPL and Levi in net which scares me ! I was hoping the Lybushkin deal to Anahiem wouldve been bigger . Lybushkin, Olofsson or a prospect and UPL for Gibson .

I don't get the Lyubushkin Trade. Doesn't anyone in the organization realize there is a physicality/toughness deposit on this team? And did I hear Toronto picked up Reeves? So much for physical play against that team. As soon as Dahlin (or anyone for that matter) lay a hand on Matthews or Marner, Reeves will bitch-slap them all over the ice. So sick of seeing this team constantly get man handled.

I never understand these overpriced 8 year deals. No player is going to maintain there value over that period and the team stay a contender. They've got a brief window in these youngsters careers before they all get paid and the team is broken up. Im reminded of Homer's pumpkin shares. "For the last time, sell your shares before Halloween you knucklehead!" 🤔

Good morning Wayne and everyone. Wayne you been pretty good calling this subject. After 40 years of loving hockey this part of the season i still can't wrap my head around lol. What I've seen from Adams im so impressed. Im putting it on autopilot he will do the right thing. Idk guys but I think this year is going to surprise a bunch of people. I really honestly think our D is going to tighten and the communication. Levi might have some bad knights but I think he is going to piss off a bunch of opponents lol. Im excited
Sabre's definitely need to get Dahlin & Power signed. Hanifin would be great just don't think he wants to be a Long term. Trevling screwed up Calgary's cap hopefully he does the same to the Leafs.
