With the Leafs leading 5-0 in game seven of their second round series against the Blues, Wendel Clark pulls a “waster” on Curtis Joseph.
My favorite part of the entire sequence is the MLG crowd reaction: an excited buzz as they realize Clark has a chance at a hat trick, followed by momentary confusion when they see that he didn’t score, followed by delirious cheers when they realize he’s chosen to murder the other team’s goalie instead.
Joseph’s attempt to shrug it off as no big deal is actually sort of badass, or at least it would have been if Curt Giles hadn’t completely ruined it by rushing over to give him a hug. That part kills me.
On a related note, this was the only actual slapshot Wendel took in his entire NHL career.
I had this play at #12 on my list of the Top 17 Wendel Clark moments of all time: http://www.downgoesbrown.com/2008/11/wendel-moment-12-see-kids-this-is-what.html

That was a haymaker!
Theres no way to get out of the way of that blast.
It probably hurt worse taking on the side of the mask, rather than off the top.
Hes really lucky he didnt get it off the side of the throat. .

Best face save in NHL history. 👏
Best waster in NHL history
If only Clark had done a 180 and fired that shot at Fraser. Missed opportunity……Yeah yeah, before you jump down my throat, I'm kidding…..Kinda.
Clark almost decapitated Joseph
They score five goals on the guy and they trade for him ,, unbelievable…
Wow
I was there. Fantastic evening.
Hockey was SO much better back then!
Yup, there was another year of good NHL hockey after this, and that was it. Nothing wrong with this hockey, looks plenty fast, hard shots (wood or aluminum stick with a wood blade) smaller goalie equipment, hitting and what appears to be some hate, and passion. Now you’re watching the millionaire’s club chit chatting with the opposition about where to go out for dinner after the game. In a vacuous building, miles away from the action or Squinting through a fishing net to see.
Hockey was so much more entertaining back then
I bet Clark did that on purpose
My parents won 4 tickets to that game. My brother and parents were there! Drove all the way from London Ontario to get there and I was in grade 4… late drive home.
One of the best hockey memories. Was a great game to watch as a kid still super excited about seeing an NHL game in person. First NHL game in person!
I remember this shot! I also remember the crowd yelling Assssshoooole…. assssshooooole to the ref for some reason… cant remember why, just remembered I thought it was hilarious at that age
Man I miss Bob Cole and Harry Neale
That shot would have bounced harmlessly off of Fraser's hair!
Legendary
More hits thrown by this Leafs team in a 1:30 video than the current 2022 Leafs team has thrown all year
The only way that shot could be any better was if it hit Kerry Fraser instead.
He has a wicked slap shot
This is what Toronto needed to do to Florida goalkeeper go bowsky in order to get past him this is how you win playoff games
Not one blues player went after wendal for that. Bobby hull used to do the same thing to intimidate goalies. with his great wrist shot You knew Clark did it on purpose bobby Hall did that one time to the blues and Bob Gassoff snapped his arm like a twig if Gassoff was on the blues he’s been going after Mr. Clark bobby was about the same size as Clark But unlike Wendell case gassoff, didn’t just hang in with the heavy weights, he used to beat the shit out of them. Besides, he wouldn’t of fought Wendell he would have used his stick.
