  1. I think the Leafs are in too deep with an aging Taveras, and add on Marner
and Mathews and you have around $ 33 mil tied up in just 3 players ( not good)
Add to that Marner disappears in the playoffs, and is a very soft player, and does
not perform when the going gets tough in the playoffs. If the overall Cap is like
$ 82 Mil, that means you have 40 % of your Cap eaten up by just 3 players, and
that's just not going to cut it.

I think the answer is to trade Marner, and use that Cap space wisely, and build
acquire some depth players that are physical, and talented as well. You could
get 2 players for that kind of money.

I live in Winnipeg, and I'm a Jet's fan, and that's what I see the Leafs have to do,
in order to go deep in the playoffs. They have a lot of talented scorers. They
need some grit, and talent to go with it, and settle on a Goaltender.

I should add — the Jets have their problems as well, and very similar, although
they have nobody signed over $ 8.5 mil, and that's Wheeler, and that's a
mistake for the Jets, as he's going on 35 years old. Too much $$$

I think the Leafs should deal Marner — I think that's the answer, and deal him
to a team, that needs scoring, and he'll return a couple great players. Great
Channel bye the way here, with good content.

  2. Trade Reilly for Miles Wood and sign Blake Coleman. Now you have guys to go to the net. The leafs need a shutdown d-man like ufa Adam Larsson or Jamie Oleksiak, not a guy who plays similar to Reilly and is soft.

  3. No way you give up Rielly in a sign and trade. Thats super crazy high overpayment no way anyone who knows anything is thinking that.

  4. Much as Hamilton is intriguing, can't see the Leafs going for him. He's going to want 8M (may get it, may not), and Leafs are already in cap hell. Problem is, no one knows what kind of money Rielly is looking for. Priorities would be a decent left winger for the 2nd line, a 1B goalie, and a serious overhaul of the bottom 6, except for Spezza. Quite a bit of work, and that assumes they'll be able to sign Hyman. Have to replace Kerfoot as well… whew… busy off season

  5. HARD NO to this guy. 8+ should be reserved for the Doughtys, the Pietrangelos, the prime age Keiths, the Hedmans, the Webers……not Doug Hamilton…smh

  6. Give it a break, Andrew. The Leafs have 1 in 32 odds to win the cup once per year. Would you invest so much time, energy, and resources into winning a game of roulette if you only had 1 chance to win every year and you could only win if the ball landed on your one number out of 32 numbers? The only reason you can't give up on them now is because you're so invested in them.

  7. With all the uncertainty of lockdowns and restrictions that are plaguing Canada I honestly can't see any UFA's wanting to sign in a Canadian market, nor do I see any of their own UFA's resigning .

  8. I think Leafs also seriously consider D Brandon Carlo of Bruins. His contract is up. 6'5" RD salary might work out too. Although he is RFA. ๐Ÿ‘ˆ๐Ÿ‘ˆ๐Ÿ‘ˆ๐Ÿ‘

  9. I say go all in on Hamilton. You can trade Riley. I would go for picks and prospects with Riley and maybe one roster player. This team really needs to get the pipeline loaded up again. Yes maybe the production is similar. But the difference to me is heโ€™s right handed and the shot. Itโ€™s not just about how much he scores. But itโ€™s about giving Toronto another dimension on the power play that teams have to account for now. Which in turn will open up space for Matthews making him even more dangerous. And if Marner is still here it will do the same for him.

  10. would Dougie take a home town discount? Would 6.5 make it work? What are the prices with Corona? What other teams would competing teams can take on his contract? I like the idea of Dougie in, and RIelly out for some picks and prospects.. keeping the marlies stacked and the future secure…

  11. Only way this could happen is trade Reilly or let him go to Seattle and free up that cap space. Hamilton will still be too much, and frankly, don't think he'd be that great a pickup for the money they would have to pay. get him for 6 or 7mil, maybe. But this isn't happening. He is not Pietrangelo and now its a flat cap. Even Pietrangelo had to take 'less' because of the pandemic and flat cap….

  12. The point shot is important as Reilly just does not posses that on the pp, but how is he like defensively Andrew? and does he use his size? thanks, truly just asking these questions as I have not seen him play.

  13. The one of the biggest problem for the leafs has been their Defense for a number of yrs now. Yes they did improve their defensive game last yr no doubt. Yet it still is their biggest problem. Not sure why people keep mentioning Sandin and Timothy linnigren, these are puck moving defenseman with no size or sandpaper to their game.
Take a look at the last for standing in the playoffs and their defenseman..they all have size and grit. Well balanced backend..
The current setup of the leafs have no size or gritt, other then Muzzin who has been hurt twice during the last two playoffs.. so sorry i disagree with your assessment in regards to the leafs. Sure these two maybe ready for full time gig with the leafs but they add nothing tobwhat the leafs need.

  14. Andrew, wouldn't you say that the emergence of Rasmus Sandin has made Morgan Rielly's extremely affordable contract expendable? He could bring toronto a really good forward to play with Matthews and Marner or bring in another young stud to the D-line that projects to be elite defensively (maybe not so much on the offense side). If we brought in Hamilton you could pair him up with Muzzin, put Sandin with the steady Brodie, and bring Dermott back to pair with Holl/Liljegren. I personally love this lineup on the D and think each pair brings its own challenges for the opposition to deal with. I agree though, Dougie Hamilton is just a dream.
