I feel like with who recently got in he should get in- if Barrasso got in he should get in. I am not gonna sit here and debate who is or isn’t better- but to me Osgood is least on Barrassos level. A solid goaltender who played in front of awesome teams and but performed when it mattered the most

Osgood deserves to be in. He has the numbers and the resume despite what anyone has to say.

  3. Hey_look_new

never in the conversation for best goalie on the league

rarely even the best goaltender on his own team

Detroit constantly brought in guys to try an upgrade over Osgood

    big no to HoF

  4. Grimmer026

Well he beat the piss out of Roy, and he’s a Hall of Famer, so yeah!

  5. Kooky-Seesaw9890

The question is, wich player had less of an impact on their team then he had? If there wasn’t a cap per year like there is, he would be in already.

  6. In between HOFer and Freeloader.

He lived up to his name. OsGOOD. Not OsGREAT or OsASS.

He’s Corey Crawford before Corey Crawford who just lasted a lot longer in the league. A very respectable goalie you can win with. But never one of the best in the league at any point

1997 Mike Vernon not Chris Osgood, was the playoff goalie. 2008 he had a great playoff performance. 2002 I forgot Manny Legace (the poor mans Chris Osgood) was the backup, but either way that was Haseks cup run.

  7. 11-cupsandcounting

Yes, but only by what has become of the HOF standards.

  8. casinodwarf

Freeloader. I’d be happy if he didn’t end up in the Hall.

  9. Otherwise_Awesome

Cujo deserves to be in over Osgood first….

  10. NomadicNematode128

If you’re a biased Wings fan like me, ya gotta ask yourself….does Corey Crawford deserve to be in? If not, neither does Ozzie.

Alex Mogilny, Steve Larmer and Pat Verbeek need to get in before Osgood is considered in my opinion

HOF’er. His numbers says he is. This subjective BS about being propped up by teammates shouldn’t be a factor as it IS subjective. I watched him play and never thought he was a top 5 goalie while he was playing but that is subjective. He has the hardware and numbers to back up his HOF credentials.

    Porque no los dos?!

A lot of juggernaut teams would kill to have a goalie as solid as Osgood in a playoff run.

HOF. Best goalie fight in history + the first time talking with Roy since then on tsn off the record.

People were arguing about Price making the HHOF recently, so I compared his stats with Oz for the hell of it. Most of Osgood’s stats are better than Price, except save %, which is obviously a huge stat. Price has a Vezina but Oz has Cups. It’s a pretty close comparison. The big kicker is that Oz played with some very good teams in front of him, and some of the best defensemen ever. Price did not, which makes his stats quite impressive. Oz has received more shade than he should have, he was better than a lot of people think, but I understand why he is not in the HHOF. I wish he was though.

  16. Vernon was the only Wings goalie I cared about, and he just got in this year. Osgood might get in…ten years from now.

  17. He’s a good, maybe even great goalie. It still takes skill to win in the NHL no matter what team you were on. It’s just that when the bar is induction to the HHOF, he falls woefully short. The red wings teams he was on really helped him statistically. There was never a season where it felt like he was the reason they did well.

  18. AntiDbag

He’s not HOF material and also definitely not a freeloader. IMO, he’s in the hall of very good player.

  19. jerseygunz

I’d be willing to let any goalie who scored a goal in the hall of fame just because it’s hilarious when it happens hahaha

  20. Wrath_Of_Aguirre

Backstopped us to two Stanley Cup championships, was definitely second only behind Zetterberg for MVP in 2008, and has over 400+ wins. There’s at least an argument. Anybody who gives a hard no is ignoring the importance of the aforementioned achievements.

  21. TJTrapJesus

I’ve always been in the “no” category, but considering Vernon got in I’m in the “whatever, why not” category.

  22. Beaversneverdie

He’s no more overrated than Ken Dryden. His D was exceptional but wasn’t on the 70’s Habs level where there entire team was lightyears ahead of the league. You still have to stop the puck. Plenty of teams with amazing D have lost due to a goalie not stopping pucks.

  23. HufokkinTonite

It’s too bad Vince McMahon doesn’t run the hockey HOF, everybody would get in.

  24. TrentUlyssesCooper

08 osgood took that cup…. That And franzen went on an ungodly goal streak.

This debate has already happened this year, saw this posted a few weeks ago I think. Try again next year.
