A recent report from Rick Dhaliwal highlights how the Vancouver Canucks have inquired about the price for Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Nikita Zaitsev. I didn’t think I’d ever have to make this video, but here we are. It’s more NHL rumours, but this one stings quite a bit.

okay. here is my take. so don't forget toronto is in cap hell… i think that there is a lot of good players in toronto that are on the move… think about leivo and how that worked out…maybe because we lost gubranson we are in need of a guy like that…. now look im just as skeptical as you though. lots of people in t.o are p.o.d about his play. surrounded by a mediocre blueline, he doesn't fit in. that screams disaster to me…. I really hope he doesnt screw this up… ID be harassing panarin but thats about it. stetcher will step up… hutton will step up. i don think we should be fretting about that yet… maybe at the deadline??
I hope Benning has also ‘checked in’ on Cale Makar, Charlie McAvoy, Miro Heiskanen, and Ramus Dahlin 😏😏
I would be very willing to take Zaitsev (half contract retained) and Marleau as Cap relief If they throw something in. I dont think Zaitsev is a target because of his skills, more because of the pieces that could come with him.
Zaitsev gets a bad wrap. He had a good rookie season, but was then thrown into a defense first position which he was never ready for. He was coming into the nhl as a smooth skating pp dman with some snarl. I think he could still be that, but in Toronto they had Reilly and Gardiner, so he was forced into a bad situation. If he was paired with a reliable defensive dman and play some pp, I think he could be a really solid #4 for Vancouver. His contract is long, but I dont feel like he is overpayed. He averaged over 21mins a night and is right handed. With a change of scenery, I think Vancouver could really like this player.
STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM ZAITSEV!! please JB
He is also linked to the devils and lightning 🤷♂️not sure how lightning will work but
Canucks would be much better off going for a guy like Brandon Montour. Speed and Skill is what Benning preaches
Gudbranson trade wasn’t even bad. McCann hasn’t done anything in the NHL
Vancouver and Russian's don't mix to well. They always end up traded or they go home. Don't touch him.
He’s a Del Zotto 2.0
Leafs: need right handed defence
Trades only nhl ready right handed defence like a boss.
No no no. Baaad. Third pairing defensemen who are paid like second pairing defensemen seem to be some weird addiction of Benning's. As a bonus he's on contract until he's like 83, that's the opposite of value.
We've already got a bad contract in Ericsson … Zaitsev has one of the worst contracts
At least Badbranson could hit and clear the net once in a while while putting up 15 points. Zaitsev isn't much of an upgrade offensively and certainly isn't better than a random 2-million-dollar FA defensively. I see zero reason why Off The Board Benning should be working the phones to mop up Dumbas's problems.
Cant be any worse than pouliot or Hutton lol
If they can pawn off Sutter, sure.
Rumours are garbage. Zzzz
Rumours are garbage. Zzzz
I wouldn't mind Zaitsev. Even tho he has the 7 year contract, $4.5M per year isn't horrible and he doesn't have a NMC so you could expose him at the expansion draft if we wanted to(?)
I'm a Leafs fan and believe whoever gets him will be pleased . Miscast in Toronto was the problem imo .
nikita zaitev for petterson
The only reason any team would be interested in trading for Zaitsev, is so that they can acquire another asset of some kind along with him and/or possibly shed some salary of their own by moving it back to the Leafs. Toronto could also want multiple pieces in return, in a scenario where each team puts a package of assets on the table, with the Zaitsev contract being absorbed as a 'favour' of sorts in order for the other team to come out ahead in the deal. A team with lots of cap space to spare could really benefit from this, same as the Leafs did on multiple occasions during the first year or so of their rebuild.
We need a Willie Mitchell Stay at home type to play with Hughes. Zaitsev would be a disaster here.
I mean take zaitzev for free idc I just want this contract gone
No thanks.
Your voice makes my ears bleed
Everyday some says Vancouver wants something lol maybe Vancouver is floating crap like they did with Luongo
the leafs must really want eriksson.
