Marcus Foligno 2023-24 Season Preview!

On today’s episode of Locked on Wild, we discuss season expectations for Marcus Foligno for 2023-24! We recap last year, and why it’s pretty clear that 2021-22 was an outlier. We look at reasons for his offensive surge, and subsequent outage last year. We try to determine who Foligno is at this point in his career and on the final year of his current contract. We finish by looking at why Foligno is probably transitioning toward a Pat Maroon type player and if the Wild want to bring him back beyond this year, it needs to be in that type of a role.

  1. First time commenting. I got a question, not to be a doomer, but what if the club considers Rossi a bust? Do the Wild trade him, and where does he go/ what could we get for him?

Obviously, he needs a chance, and I hate thinking like that, but there is a chance and was just speculating.

  2. You know how I feel about foligno
So I'll talk about the Greif Line
Which was special never happen again

  3. It seemed as Greenway went unproductive after injury, Foligno made more of a body man of himself and really took himself out of good shooting percentages. He slowed himself by chasing hitting first. There ends up being too much time spent getting the puck back to the offensive side of the red line. He became a lightning rod for penalties as he entered into his Gladiator behavior. It may have inspired to a degree but in the end it hurt the team. Foligno is becomig strictly a 4th line guy if he doesn' get closer to his career year numbers. Otherwise, this is his last season in MN…

  4. IMO, 2023 is Foligno's final season with the Wild. He's on the wrong side of 30 and very injury prone. His $3.1M cap hit can be better spent elsewhere.

  5. The year got off to a terrible start, really due to Greenway NOT holding his part of the bargain. This led to Foligno trying to do too much. I feel there’s too big of a heart under that jersey, leading to a rebound season. The key will be his health as I’m not going to completely bonkers on a player who sticks up for his teammates, and had an officiating crew change the rules in G4 against Dallas. He was getting penalties for solid hits, just calling it the way I saw it. The G5 major was a complete joke. I’m predicting 12-15 goals and leadership from 17. Hope I’m right as the Wild will need everyone to step up if they want to remain relevant. There is a ton of pride in that locker room. Maron will help, hoping Rossi, or if need be, a Beckman, Walker or someone not on the radar steps up. As with every season, the Wild always seem to be formidable but drop the ball in the post season. They seem like a team that has just enough talent to tease with the cap killing any true pick ups that could help them make a deeper run. It’s a big year for a ton of these guys, 17 being one…
