Let’s Look at Drew Doughty

Since he has been in the news a lot already this season, I wanted to look over his career in the NHL so far.

  1. I think anyone who says Doughty is washed up doesn't have a leg to stand on. Aside from his plus/minus (which isn't a great barometer anyway), his stats show he's still capable of playing the game at an elite level.

That said, he seems like a really unlikable person to me — not that that means anything in this context.

  2. I like to rip on him but I remember watching the 2012 SCF not knowing much about him and he scored that beauty of a coast to coast goal on Brodeur and I certainly knew who he was after that lol.

  3. Those who are writing him off are just jealous that he doesn't play for team they are cheering for. Sorry losers …

  4. id take him, contract and all, on my favorite team. that's the best compliment i can give a player.

  5. Love your videos and long time subscriber here but your sarcasm towards the leafs gets tiring tbh

  6. oh ya and two Olympic gold medals, where in 2014 he was the best player on the best team in the world and also the 1st medal in his second year in the league age 20.

  7. For me, the most impressive element is his versatility. The guy has missed 16 games out of a possible 871. Plus he's top 5 (400+) currently in consecutive games played by active players. Unreal.

  8. Dion Phaneuf is a good example of a player that plays a hard hitting game that suffers in the later years of his career. Chara is the exception as he's a tree of a man.

  9. I remember him being compared to Ray Bourque when he was drafted. Doesn't get the points like Bourque but the tough play elevates his game to Bourque's Norris nominee level value.

  10. Personally I still consider him a top 10 defenseman. I think it is a mixture of a lot of things that caused him to have a terrible year last year. Like you said Shannon if your on a terrible team that can't score your +/- will suffer greatly. Not to mention the atrocious goaltending the Kings had last year.

  11. A first ballot no questions asked hall of famer …ya you make a good case. If he got traded to the Leafs I could see it but for now, he is going to be minus 30ish again. We can go higher though from Hall of Famer to Legend. No one replaces Borje Salming as King!

  12. Chara takes better care of himself than Doughty and see Byfuglien as an example of earlier retirement

  13. If you look at the records, Quick has started in every loss LA has had, Quick has let 5+ goals in each game he has started… it’s not fluke goals either, goals he should of stopped blew by him. I personally want to know what happened to him in the off season… he is clearly distracted by something. I love J Quick but if his numbers continue, he will end up in the AHL or traded away at the deadline…

  14. Doughty and kopitar honestly have no help, they carry this entire team. Goaltending is horrible and absolutely no offence, and only Martinez I would consider a legitimate top 4 dman besides doughty

  15. Hey! Thankyou for your channel, I watch it practically every day. Having been a kiddo when NHL '95 came out on Sega and PC and falling in love with NHL, the dynasty at the time being Detroit is still closest to my heart. Could you do a part on Vyacheslav Kozlov? He was such a major part of Detroit's success but I don't think he is remembered anymore.

  16. I think with Doughty you have to talk about the 2010 Olympics when discussing him becoming a legit star. I remember people were surprised he made the team and then he turned out to be one of the best defensemen they had. His jersey I remember being the only one sold out at the gold medal game.
