What would you need back in a Petterson trade?

[The Trade Rumours begin…](https://www.nhltraderumors.me/2023/09/golden-knights-canucks-blockbuster.html)

Looks like we are seeing the old trade rumour mill starting to churn for Petey.

What would a good return for Petey look like?

If the Canucks are not in a good spot on New Year’s day and the Petterson camp is mostly uninterested in signing, do you start shopping him around?

Lol as if this is a credible source

  2. Sahil910

Nathan Mackinnon, Cale Makar, Mikko Rantanen minimum

He’s an RFA at the end of his current deal and going to get 10.5m+ a year. By that definition, we start at 4 first rounders, or the equivalent

  4. Repulsive_March_4635

emerson etem and a 7th round pick

Draft picks and, in particular, first round picks and A plus prospects.

First of all, a team like Vegas doesn’t have the assets/players to make that trade.

It would take 2 x 1st round picks from a team that will finish in the bottom 20 this year, as well as two blue chip prospects IMO.

Teams like Detroit, Anaheim, Buffalo, Montreal, or Ottawa would be the only ones with the right assets to make the deal. You could add Arizona in that mix if they decide that they want to field a major league team finally.

I don’t even wanna hear this kind of negative talk. We are nothing without him. He’s as close to a generational talent we have. Pay da man. Hopefully he doesn’t wanna leave

In the spirit of the thread, in a trade to Anaheim

    To Vancouver:
    Mason McTavish
    Jacob Perrault
    Olen Zellweger
    1st 2024
    1st 2025

Trade Petey for Stanley Cup winner Ben Hutton.

  10. Gnome_de_Plume

Jack Hughes and Luke Hughes for Petterson and Quinn Hughes

I like how the talk has morphed from short term vs long term extension to a trade all because of one stupid Vegas article. lol đŸ‘ŽđŸœ

What if the whole team refuses to take the ice because of a poor start and we’re forced to trade the whole team? What could Vancouver trade Hughes, Demko, Pettersson and Miller for? đŸ€Ș

It would have to be monumental. I’m thinking of a blue chip center, defender, and an unprotected first round pick.

  13. xizrtilhh

Pettersson to Thanos for the Infinity Stones and an unprotected 1st.

The return would be bigger than the Matthew Tkachuk trade.

In addition that article outlines the one team who 1) doesn’t have the assets to make this possible 2) doesn’t have the cap space to make a re-signing possible and 3) doesn’t need a top Centre since they have Eichel

I’m surprised this isn’t a far bigger deal around here. Petey breaking off negotiations is not a good sign – and, in the end, if he only signs a 1yr deal for 2024-25, that’s a signal that he’s almost certainly leaving.

Jack hughes and Simon Nemec for Petey all dayyy

  17. Basically all the players in the league … we’ll just give back who we don’t want.

And while I am definitely in the ‘trade Petey now while you can get top value for him’ camp, I’m definitely NOT happy to be here.

But after a decade of having an imbecile in charge of the team, there’s just been too much damage done to our cap situation, our drafting, development, trades etc to think that we can afford to pay Petey what he’s worth and somehow actually build a team that be competitive let alone compete for a SC.

We can barely put a full team on the ice and not call it a joke.

What we can get for Petey? Better be an unprotected first, a solid roster player, a good prospect, and some second round picks too.

Oh dear, has it come to this? My fellow canuckleheads deserve better than a half baked retool that doesn’t make us better. So sick of this shit.

Depends on whether management would continue to be delusional enough to think we should still be trying to compete right away. If yes, then probably something similar to the Tkachuk trade.

If no, I’d want a top 4 D under 27 years old and under contract, a 1st, a 2nd, and a blue chip A-tier prospect who is expected to become a 1st line forward or 1st pair defenceman
