Gotta See It: Bellemare rocked by Boll, Tortorella not happy

Check this out, Jared Boll receives a five minute major and game misconduct for the big hit on Pierre-Edouard Bellemare and John Tortorella was not pleased with the referee.

  1. Late? Yes. Headshot? Only because Bellemare was hunched over. I see why the refs did what they did but I don't think it will be a suspension.

  2. It was late, 5 and a game for interference is only fair. Could see a possible 1-2 game suspension. I'm all for hitting in the NHL, love to see big hits, but the puck is clearly away from Bellemarre and even on these replays the puck isn't even on his stick. Boll knew it too, he gloves came off right after the hit.

  3. the check was late but good and clean. the jackets coach was fires up. if it was his team he'd be bitching saying they need to be kicked out of the game. he's a pos

  4. As much as I like Bellemare, it seems that the hit is clean though Boll had no reason to deliver it since Pi-Ed didn't have the puck.

  5. Bellemare had the puck for less then a third of a second, he got hit a bit over a second after he got rid of the puck. Boll saw a player about to make contact with the puck and went in full tilt to get a good clean hit, he just didn't figure Bellemare would ditch the puck that quick. Had he not pushed the puck onward right away this would have been a great CLEAN hit, but because he did in fact ditch it right away it was a late hit. I don't think Boll was attempting to hurt him he was just trying to separate the man from the puck. As far as the ejection goes? I think that was done by the refs to keep the game from becoming more physical, IE fights, line brawls and bench clearing fights. Torts was right to be angry but at the same time that is what the NHL wants its Refs to do, keep order.

Conclusion, late hit, wasn't head hunting, the call is justified, but no further suspension/discipline.

  6. That was a clean hit, Bellemare had his head down…..should of gotten maybe 2 min for interference, not a game misconduct! Ridiculous

  7. Bellemare never even had the puck, he just knocked it on to a teammate. Definitely way too late hit, 4-6 games at least.

  8. Ok so I understand everyone saying the NHL is too strict with the hits and what not, because they are, like players get suspended for a simple slash to the ankle. But honestly, it doesn't matter what team you cheer for, or if you hate Philadelphia, this is CLEARLY a very late hit. Stop the video at about 0:45 and you can see that White has full control of the puck, and Boll is going for a hit on a guy no even relevant to the play anymore. There is no reason Bellemare should be expecting to get blown up. In my opinion this SHOULD be a major/game misconduct because of the lateness and severity of the hit, but not a suspension. I'll be kinda mad if he gets supplemental discipline.

  9. i remember a day when this was just another hit in the NHL, i hate this new pussy leauge

  10. Sorry, that it's a "pussy league now" but Pierre wasn't even close to the puck. Sorry you want the good ol days of people getting destroyed, but the health of these players is more important.

  11. It is not a clean hit. It would be if he had THE PUCK. It is inference since he didn't have the puck.

  12. Can't believe anyone would call this a clean hit, let me spell it out for you NO PUCK = NOT A CLEAN HIT.

  13. A tad late at most, being already making up your mind your going for the hit and being locked in how can u expect a reasonable person to not follow thru, it's near impossible. 2 mins? fine…but 4 game suspension? That's too much…this league is so pussified it's sickening

  14. 2 min interference. Gudas should of got 2 for cross checking. Bs on the four game suspension. Hockey's runied. They need to let the players handle it

  15. clean hit, how the does number 3 on the flyers get away with charging boll with his stick he makes the effort to go after boll and see boll has dropped the gloves and he charges at him with his stick the air, what is that? how is that allowed?

  16. That was a dirty hit. He got 4 games for a reason. It was late and the head was targeted. Anyone defending this hit is an idiot that has never played hockey.

  17. Many have debated on whether the hit was clean or not, but rather than go that route, I would instead ask:  Does it really matter how the hit was?

One thing you have to remember that in hockey, everything happens pretty quickly, and a teammate may not be able to tell right away if he just happened to catch it out the corner of his eye.  All that's going to go through his mind is, "Hey!  You pull that crap, YOU DIE!"  Which is basically what happened here.
