As reported by Darren Dreger, the New York Rangers are going to buyout longtime starting goaltender Henrik Lundqvist tomorrow.
With Igor Shesterkin and Alexandar Georgiev in the system, it makes Lundqvist all the more expendable.
This comes after the New York Rangers were eliminated from the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs involved sixteen teams, which were the Boston Bruins, Tampa Bay Lightning, Washington Capitals, Philadelphia Flyers, Montreal Canadiens, Carolina Hurricanes, New York Islanders, and Columbus Blue Jackets in the East, and the Colorado Avalanche, St. Louis Blues, Vegas Golden Knights, Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames, Chicago Blackhawks, Arizona Coyotes, and Dallas Stars in the West.
The Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Dallas Stars in the 2020 Stanley Cup Finals in Game 6 to win the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The Vegas Golden Knights got eliminated by the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference Finals in Game 5, and the New York Islanders were eliminated by the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 6.
Of the Conference Semi-Final matchups, the Boston Bruins, Colorado Avalanche, Vancouver Canucks, and Philadelphia Flyers have been eliminated.
The eliminated teams of the 2020 NHL Playoffs from the qualifying play-in series are the Edmonton Oilers, Winnipeg Jets, Nashville Predators, Minnesota Wild, Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Florida Panthers.
Teams eliminated from the first round of the 2020 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs are the St. Louis Blues, Calgary Flames, Arizona Coyotes, Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Montreal Canadiens, Carolina Hurricanes, and the Washington Capitals.

Leafs should grab Hank on a 1mill contract or 700 minimum. Contract Bower played until 4yrs old. Hank is worth a shot only on a league minimum.

If he goes anywhere, I think it’ll be as a backup. I loved him. I still do. I still thank Tortorella for making him a Vezina trophy winner and almost a Hart trophy winner. We should’ve won the Cup in 2012, 2015 and even this year. We should’ve traded Zherdev for Selanne in 2009, instead of acquiring Gaborik, we should’ve made MSL the captain in 2014-15 to help him continue defying his age and let him score 43 goals with 52 assists for 95 points to beat out Ovechkin for the Art Ross trophy and we should’ve acquired Patrick Kane in the 2017 offseason and replaced Quinn with Babcock or Quenneville in December of 2019 or in early January of 2020. Then, Hank would’ve won 3 cups with us and he would’ve opted out on his own to go off on a high note. Even if he goes to Colorado, it’ll be as a backup. He should just retire, in my opinion. Making Nash the posterboy, instead of MSL, was a big mistake. Also, we should’ve traded Del Zotto to St. Louis for Shattenkirk in January of 2014, instead of trading him to Nashville for Klein. The other thing is that the Smith retainment was a big mistake. We should’ve kept Shattenkirk, instead.
