Reasonable expectations for Jeff Carter this season?

Happy Friday! With that comes another episode of the podcast as Pat and Hunter start the show with which players will surprise in camp and make the team. Both hosts come up with outside-the-box picks that are not currently on the roster while also looking at whether any of the fringe players can surprise. After that, they dive into the prospects challenge lineup being announced and who they’re excited to see. It starts off with Brayden Yager as he was the top pick in this year’s draft. How will he do against other top team’s prospects? After that, the two dive into some of the other players who they’re excited to watch and how the Penguins prospect system is starting to turn around. Finally, they end the season with some expectations for Jeff Carter since he’s going into the final year of his contract. How many minutes per game should he get? What should Mike Sullivan focus on for him? Who would be some of the best linemates for him? All that, plus much more is on this episode of Locked On Penguins.

  1. He should only play 2/3 season, rest and train for the playoffs. Utilize some youth and skill to prepare your core for the 16 wins necessary for the 4th cup in the collection. Good luck Pens the full 82 games are key. 🦥

  2. With all the moves Dubas made, I don’t think Carter has a spot. I think most of his nights will be spent in the press box. Drew O’Connor didn’t resign to be scratched nor did Alex Nylander. Matt Nieto, Lars Eller, and Noel Acciari are taking roster spots. I could see Andreas Johnsson or Vinnie Hinstroza potentially stealing a spot and don’t forget Sam Poulin or Valteri Puustinen who will also be posting for roster spots in camp. I don’t see Carter fitting into this equation.

  3. Yeah for better or for worse the Pens are stuck with him due to his over 35 contract, unless Dubas sweet talks him into waiving his no-trade. I honestly wouldn't rule that out entirely because Dubas has already surprised me quite a few times in his short time here haha. But if the Pens are indeed stuck with him best we can hope for is he plays 4th line minutes and is a healthy scratch sometimes.

  4. Awesome episode glad to have hunter back, pat did a great job of course at host! Hopefully he rethinks his hockey career and retires in the first game in the first intermission.

  5. Only way he’d work (big maybe) on PP,is you park him in front of the net for tip ins, cause he’s still strong enough to cause a stir.

  6. Been listening to Hunter for several years. Big fan. For Hunter to get Pat, that’s almost (*almost*) like Dubas acquiring Karlsson.

Pat is a great hockey mind (RIP Dying Alive) and super psyched to listen to both guys this upcoming season!
