Thomas Drance on Quinn Hughes as captain, the Canucks cap crunch and more
Thomas Drance from The Athletic and Sportsnet 650 joined the guys to talk about reports Quinn Hughes will be the Canucks next captain and the Canucks cap crunch heading into the season.

Drance commenting on the drama like he and other talking heads don't love it? They fan the flames of this bs made up drama. People in Vancouver got sick of listening to this crap, and that was why sports radio in Vancouver has died. These idiots and their made up drama killed it.
If they actually plan to keep Miller for the duration of his contract then they should make him Captain. He already plays that role and other players fall in line. Who cares if he can be a hard ass or get emotional sometimes. I’d prefer that over a soft quiet person

eh. calling the family court thing as a disctraction is irrelevant.. That is not even remotely hockey related.. beyond the owner has an association with canucks.. No one asked anyone on the team if its a distraction.. its like sayinng the CEO is going through family court.. why the F would an employee care… only the media cares.. not even the casual canucks fan would care..
Did Drance really say that they could waive Höglander to get compliant? Wouldn't a team like San Jose grab him? They'd have space. Also, I'm pretty sure that Patrick and Elias have chatted enough times in Swedish about the captaincy. I suspect that Pettersson doesn't want the hassle, and that Hughes does. Pettersson is a fairly introverted person.
Hughes is not captain material and Pettersson can fuck off. Its toxic behavior and im already sick of it. I want him traded. Pettersson is waiting because he want to make sure Miller does not get the captaincy. Im done with EP40. Done.
If Hughes gets the captaincy im done as a fan. ANOTHER bad, soft, inexperienced choice for captain. AGAIN we make what we think is the popular choice OVER the right choice. I was thinking they are building a soft, spineless team and QH as captain would be the worst choice. Connor Garland would be better, Miller is obvious. We have soft teams and make bad choices because our fanbase is soft and dumb.
And so year after fucking year its the same we see skill but no grit. We so points but no tenacity.
I strongly disagree with the comment on not naming Hughes captain… I think if Petey doesnt wanna sign cause hes not captain… And that they chose his good buddy Quinn then he has no business on this team (i dont think he thinks like that btw)…. I think Petey would be super happy for Quinn, and it would be some stress off Peteys back. Hes a quiet guy. And probably doesnt wanna have a season of contract talks, and captaincy talks with the media ALL season. The canucks buying in on Hughes as captain is great for when Hughes is a UFA.. If he liked his time here and as captain. It shouldnt be a poblem to bring him back…
I think they should give it to Miller, NO QUESTION. Why saddle a youngster, who is only supposed to be concentrating on continuing to develop into a superstar, with all that responsibility? Miller is signed LONG term, has taken over the de facto Captainship on the ice last season, and is finally, as we watch the transformation before our eyes, maturing into a family man, and responsible player, has been OVER a point a game scorer in his career as a Canuck, BLEEDS emotion and will to win, and can settle easily into the job being a captain entails. Let "the kids" have their LIFE, their single LIFE, let them have their fun when they're not working, and allow them to concentrate on their development when they are working. Miller needs to be wearing The "C" come opening day faceoff! Cheers!

I think they need to have a captain. I don't think it's Quinn or Elais. Care to guess who, JT fu!@in Miller. He's been criticized and it seemed like the whole fan base took a dump on him. What did he do do….. He went to work and played his ass off. JT is the captain and has been since he joined the team. Who's played better than JT since he joined the team ? He's invested in the team and the city. Make the bold choice and put the C on JT an A on Quinn and an A on Elias. Done. No more, we don't want to have a captain this year bs. Has any team won the cup without a captain. Answer me that.
Great to have Drance back… he always has an opinion that is sobering to those who have unrealistic expectations for this team. The clouds that hung over the team's management and ownership have not really gone away. Just because the personnel on ice has improved does not mean this franchise is suddenly one that fans can feel confident will do what it takes to be a contender for the Cup.
