Great news. No point in him playing for SKA this year when they are trying to win the league and have development of their players be less of a priority, especially those who are going to leave in a few years.
This is ultimately good news, Michkov needs to be playing.
Having said that, I just want to point out a few caveats. For instance, SKA is the top team in the KHL, and Sochi was the worst last season. So Michkov is inherently playing on a worst team now (And the difference between the two WAS NOT close). Beyond that, KHL teams aren’t equal to one another in terms of funding, and I believe SKA is one of the best funded clubs in the league there. So Michkov is likely going to have access to less resources there.
I heard that Michkov didn’t want to go back to Sochi because that’s where he was when his dad died. If this news is true, they really are trying to fuck with him
That’s nice he’ll get to actually play and develop further, but I honestly think they’re treating him really poorly. He’s said he didn’t want to play in Sochi bc mentally it’s tough since his dad died out on a walk in that area. Hopefully he has some support while he’s there but pretty shitty to put a kid in that situation bc you wanna be petty
This is awesome news for Michkov and the Flyers.
Sochi should be better this year too as they added a couple of good players in Rendulic and Kristof, and will have Michkov for over 90% of the season.
