What Dhali said:
– If there is a good offer they will move him, but Canucks can’t afford to give up sweeteners.
– Don’t expect him to be moved 30 seconds after his bonus is paid tomorrow.
– Dhali thinks after the bonus is paid Canucks won’t have to attach sweeteners anymore.
– Also says that mgmt and coaches probably want to see how he does at camp and how he plays under new coaches. They might want to work with him before trading him.
– Dhaliwal reiterates at the end that Bear might come back, Canucks are still among interested teams in signing him in October/November.
Drance was also on the show today saying he wouldn’t be totally shocked if Canucks move him, but there are not many teams with that 6M in cap space (only 4). He thinks is more logical to trade him around the deadline. Also mentions his role: Myers played 90 minutes on the PK (second defenseman was Hughes with 60) under Tocchet and Foote so staff trusts him playing big minutes.
For the people who want him gone, what is your main goal? We likely wont get anything back. Yes he’s paid too much, but he would still be an above average 3rd pair guy.
Wait does he get 5 mill and his 6m cap hit this year for a total of 11 million?!
If we have to add anything to move him there is no point
I think it’s highly unlikely they move him until they have a replacement (Bear?). I don’t see them stumbling through 2-3 months with a right side of Hronek – one of Soucy/Cole on their off side – Juulsen when they have a guy who, no matter what you think of him, is absolutely an NHL defenceman (something not proven of Juulsen). It just doesn’t make sense to cripple your right side like that for cap space you won’t even really be able to use effectively – in the flat cap world, no one’s moving any significant money till the deadline.
He’s a veteran defencemen. There is ZERO chance they move him without a replacement. As such, unless they get a veteran d-man back, he’s staying.
Also, there is basically no chance Hirose or any fringe AHL/NHL player is taking Myers spot on a Tocchet coached team.
Finally, he won’t be traded at the TDL unless they are mathematically eliminated, which they won’t be.
He’s more than likely a Canuck all season.
