As a buy in to the partnership? That’s ridiculous. I believe all but a few teams aren’t even worth that much.
Angry_beaver_1867
I wonder if $2b included a rink and not just the fee. The senators sale included the Canadian tire Center, which as a development lot is probably worth quite a bit should the team move into the city.
rageharles
2b or not 2b that is the question
Jeez-essFC
If owners are making enough money to make that buy-in worth the price can we also agree they could pay their arena workers a living wage and perhaps shave just a little off the top of an $18 tallboy?
Sr_Raisin_bran
Move the coyotes. I guarantee you that if you move that failing franchise the league profits Go up by at least 5%.

If they’re aren’t actively looking at it but could be convinced, this might just be the “everything is for sale for the right price” tax.

In what city without a hockey team is a $2billion investment a good idea?

Garage league.
Olipod2002
That’s a fucking stupid price
someguyfromsk
It’s their league, you want in you pay whatever price they say you do.
thetonyhightower
Considering, what, two franchises are worth that at the moment?
Eh, I’m sure someone in Atlanta will pay that for a third kick at the can. I mean, I hope there’s someone (or some consortium) with pockets that deep.

Can’t wait for the this watered down 45 team league in 10 years
MaxiPad1989
They should move Arizona to Houston and just sit back for a while. 32 teams is a good number. They are going to start watering down the product if they keep going.
Something like 24 of the 32 teams were in the playoff race until late in the season. 26 of the 32 teams averaged a 90% capacity number on the season. That’s not a coincidence. The NHL is in a good place right now and they don’t need to be thinking about having more teams than the NFL.
RoadRobert103
Probably already would be up there with NFL/NBA if they actually marketed the games properly and you actually could watch games without subscribing to a bunch of different sports apps only to realize you only get half the games….
Hunter_S_Throwaway
I thought this was a NieR post, based on the title.
Just4nsfwpics
2b for?
zmet
They have a similar number of teams to other leagues like the NFL and NBA, how many teams are they thinking?
Also I know about the Winterhawks, but do you guys think Portland could successfully host an NHL team?
Sea_Sheepherder_2966
no Quebec Nordiques 2.0

Dumb. It should be free.

I think a second team in Toronto would be the only 2B$ expansion that could thrive
eatchickendaily
I’ll take any amount that keeps more teams from existing
imaginarion
Oh boy. Imagine if they actually get $2B apiece. What would the NBA and MLB then charge for theirs? Or the NFL? Lordy.

So many unnecessary commas.

How many teams in the league is too many?
Fractured_Lemon
Why don’t they work on expanding the fucking audience..
