Huge, clean, bonecrushing hit in a game between the New York Rangers and Calgary Flames on Monday, November 22nd, 2010 at the Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York.
@84hotshot84 Those guys are anomalies. Matt Stajan has been rocked countless times in his career and never seems to skate with his head up, he also isn't a superstar
@DJK290 dude, just write in normal english, which i am quite articulate in, your initial reply was quite vague, and I get that your trying to say that accidents can happen, but that is the reason you don't have a headshot rule
@DJK290 I know you are speaking normal English, but you are writing in convoluted, contrived way. We all get your main point, it is common sense that you don't blame a guy for one incident, but what I don't understand is what you are saying about a headshot rule.
@DJK290 Staal didn't break the rule, I think this would be more suited for the Thornton hit on Perron, which was a clean hit anyways, Thornton just happens to be taller.
This resembles the recent Komisarek hit on Olver a couple nights ago.
No penalty, no suspension, PERFECT. If they remove hits like this one or komi's, it's just pussifying the NHL. They might as well just make hitting illegal
Milbury: Stajan was sleeping before the hit and alot sleepier after. Classic Milbury…brutally honest and speaks his mind. Not to mention he and I are on the same page regarding pretty much every issue having to do with the games physicality.
do you play hockey in mexico? Rome hit him shoulder to head, and left his feet, with the principal contact being HIS HEAD, or he wouldn't have seized up the way he did. Filthy gutless hit. Staal stopped skating, glided in, squared up and hit stajan shoulder to shoulder. I think you might be getting your videos mixed up. Go start another riot EH.
So if a player looks away it should be a penelty? All NHL players will begin to watch the ice not to get tackled and that would be very boring hockey wouldnt it?
it doesnt matter if its a blindside hit. thats not suspendable. its just like getting caught with your head down. staal caught stajan off guard and made him pay. just like any other player in the NHL would

Sleepy before the hit and a lot sleepier after…Classic
@DJK290 if you were to regulate headshots then you would go against everything you just said
@DJK290 you agree with a headshot rule, but you say that some headshots can be accidental, meaning there should be no headshot rule

@DJK290 The Thornton hit wasn't "shit happening" He hit a guy who had his head down and was punished for it.
Stajan is a bum who gets hit like this all the time he never learns

@Xgames13 yeah why not? it's the only way they can solve the problem
Staal would get 10 games for this clean hit today…which sucks.
@KennGM actually he wouldn't. this hit was specifically included in the dvd shanahan and the NHL distributed as an example of a clean hit.
@kwsn so why was aaron rome suspened in the stanley cup finals ? if that hits clean ?
It's clean but quite blindside. Why the hell wouldn't it get suspended?
@nwasroma your parents are brother and sister and clearly should not have mated
@MrMetallica1294 the lateness was the main factor in rome's hit. stupid, but those are the rules.
@kwsn, 1.because he hit horton in the face with an elbow 2. because he plays for the filthy canucks
Hey, Matt, do you like apples?
Looks like some whiplash to me.

If it was a blindside it wouldn't be clean you idiot.. Which it wasn't a blindside anyways.
A Bruins fan calling the Canucks filthy.. claaaassic.
@herpes604 i'm a rangers fan.. remember the last time we met in the playoffs?
looked like a fucking bobble head
sorry i cant read that. Our six stanley cup rings were in my eyes
that was actually a really good hit
So if a player looks away it should be a penelty? All NHL players will begin to watch the ice not to get tackled and that would be very boring hockey wouldnt it?
1. it wasn't blindside
2. if it's clean, it doesn't deserve a suspension.
3. please leave
not at all lol

This is back from 2010, it was before the league started getting more serious about suspending targeting the head.
Plus I wouldn't say it's a blindside, Staal came from the front.
When you carry the puck you should expect to be hit.
That was a clean hit, and I'm a flames fan, Stajan was admiring his pass he should have been paying attention
Um….your first and second sentences contradict each other. IT WAS CLEAN. That's why he wasn't suspended…
"Obviousness" isn't in his dictionary.
This is one crazy hit, but it's also 100% clean.
