I get these lists are for clicks but anyone with eyes knows that Slavin is a top 10 defensemen

This would be a decent list of preseason Norris trophy power rankings. Unfortunately, the Norris just goes to the highest scoring defenseman, so therefore this list is the same.
But yeah the slavin erasure is absurd. I keep being told he’s not underrated anymore by the hockey media and fans alike, then a big outlet will drop some bullshit like this.

Scoring lots of points is flashy, but good defense is not as flashy and that’s why IMO list like this are done incorrectly for defense. In these rankings, they should have good DEFENSE as the priority, and scoring points really far down the list when reviewing DEFENCE. Instead its backwards.

Heiskanen is literally likeb#3

I enjoyed Dougie’s time on the Canes, but Slavin was always the better defenseman. Nothing has changed about that, and that’s all there is the day about this list.

If someone who is an experienced hockey fan doesn’t know about Slavo at this point – shame on them.
If someone is a new hockey fan and they don’t know about Slavo – I envy them getting to experience his greatness for the first time.
Either way…lists don’t make people great … their on-ice performance does and in that regard – Slavin is peerless.

McAvoy at 3 is really what kills me. He hits a lot, and that’s it. He’s played more than 67 games one time three years ago and has 50 points the past two years on absolutely legendary Bruins teams surrounded by Hall of Famers. He averages 50 points per 82 games (true avg per season is 38) and 35 takeaways per 82 games. Less than half a takeaway per game – Martinook averages more takeaways than this “defenseman.”
Meanwhile Slavin has played fewer than 68 games only twice in eight years, one of which was his rookie season. Averages 33 points in 82 games WHILE AVERAGING 80 TAKEAWAYS per 82.
Did I mention McAvoy takes FOUR TIMES as many penalty minutes as Slavin?
I just don’t get the love for McAvoy and the disrespect for Slavin. I really, really don’t.

*I’ll check back next year on this list. Something tells me we’ll have atleast 3 top 10

As long as Slavin gets votes for Conn Smythe, that’s all that matters.
