  1. Portilla was rubbish his last year in college. He had only a .906 svpct as opposed to .920s he had previously. Perhaps the defensive structure was different and he was exposed. Idk but I definitely did not think he was going to come in and dominate since he didn't his senior year where he should have been the best. I thought Vilalta was a lot better last season. I guess they didn't believe in him as well. Now, it's Ingham's turn.

  2. For how many years is our roster pretty much set with limited spots available… given that we have some great prospects in the pipeline such as lafierre, pineli, chromiak, Spenceetc. Do u see the kings having space for them after next season and if not do we keep them playing in Ontario or trade them for theoretically the only need left which is a shutdown goalie. What would it take to get swayman from the Boston bruins in terms of trade chips?

  3. The rookie tournament was fun. Kings had a lot more invitees and tryout players with a few draftees sprinkled in.

The other teams had more draftees and less tryout and invitees because they are in the process of hording draft picks to build.

Kings pipeline is just further developed with fewer rookies. The other teams have a less developed pipeline and a full compliment of rookies.

So these games to me don't really mean a lot at this beginning level. Rookie camp is just an introduction to the Kings system. The beginning stage.

  4. The rookie tournament was alright, and very fun to attend. I was behind our net for each game, so I got to watch Ingham, Portillo, and Oster up close.

Ingham played near perfect, I hope he gets the start on the Reign, and hopefully a few big league games too.
Portillo played similarly, you could tell he was nervous playing in a pro environment. He has a 7-Hole problem that the Ducks and Sharks were exploiting, but that seems fixable, especially if he's the Reign's backup for a year or so.
I feel bad for Oster, didn't really get a fair look. The one period he played, they were in the box for half of it.

As a former ref, I disagree about having them swallow their whistles this weekend. It's not just a Rookie Tournament for the players, it's a rookie tournament for the refs, too. Each ref this weekend was a young ECHL or AHL official who are trying to make it to the NHL, and they were showcasing themselves, as well. FWIW, minus one call or so per team each game, they did well.
Not to mention, this weekend is trying to simulate an NHL experience for these Rookies, so if they wanted to stay out of the box, they should've stayed disciplined. One of the biggest issues from this weekend.

This weekend could not have gone more perfectly in terms of development, imo. They shined in their strengths, like some lines of their defense, but they also revealed some big issues that they'll probably focus on throughout the year, like offense and the power play.

I'm really looking forward to the games down under, should be fun! פʞפ, to all you Australians!
