The problem with putting Nylander on the top 6…it makes the team too top heavy which is why nothing is working. You have to spread the "suck" in order to make all lines good.
It was a nagging problem and aggravted during he offseason. Considering its being described as a serious procedure it couldve been a mere consequence of obtaining different professional opinions and non too
It sounds like they move Nylander to center to showcase him for maybe a trade and then bring Murray back. Also I think they knew about and waited to the last minute to take advantage of it. But this might also be a Jack Eichel kind of thing.
Tragic news about Matt Murray-IMHO, he is done, no way he comes back again after another major surgery. Hope the Leafs can get a suitable replacement. Nylander at center,eh? That could be the answer for them with the foward group.
I think it's to trade him , probably a team wants to see if he can play center

Re: Matt Murray: I agree with @teddyrobinson….Murray is toast. Remember Weber and Price in the 2021 Cup run??? They were amazing and lights out then BAM…2 days after they got beat out by Bolts Bergevin announces Weber's career probably over and maybe Price too!!! That's where Murray is…. he's done!!!!
Re: Nylander at centre: he's a natural born winger. He should be a winger not a centre. Putting him at centre isn't going to increase his value as far as I can see. Centremen have to actually WORK on the ice and Wee Willie is a coaster….a damn good coaster but still a coaster.

Who is on the right side with Travares? Is Knies on the Second line?
Who's in net and what's on the blue line ?
Really giving other players a full opportunity to make the team at their original positions!

If Murray was okay to back up during the playoffs according to Leaf brass, then he is put on LTRI with no real reason given , now the very 1st day of training camp and now he needs significant surgery!
Define significant, and duration of recovery time.
Nylander at center won't last long hit won't like the back checking part of position along with the physicality
Nice point, centre could help justify them getting more out of Willy as they probably need to give him what he wants.
I don't trust the Leafs bosses.
