What does a successful season for the Washington Capitals look like?

In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about what does a successful Washington Capitals season look like. Winning a Stanley Cup would be great, but that doesn’t necessarily define a successful season. Part of a successful season would have the Capitals making it to the playoffs period. The Caps missed the playoffs for the first time since 2014. Spencer Carbery had his work cut out. Dan then talks about how Carbery getting Evgeny Kuznetsov and Anthony Mantha back on track is important to the Caps overall success. Dan then talks about the Caps training camp roster was released and what storylines to look out for. In the last segment Dan talks about hoe Rasmus Sandin getting traded to the Capitals was a life changing experience.

  1. I really want Martha to have a great year NEXT season. The worst thing would be him playing well, getting paid them being horrible again when the money is secured. Backstrom has to go. 15 years in the NHL and he is whining about a sore hip. I am sick of him being a thorn in the side of the caps being successful. Ovie should outright tell hi. Leave! You’re holding us back with your stupid aching hip. Leave!!

  2. I think you made some great points Dan. I think as a fan base we really need to sit back and let this develop. This is a clean slate for this team and players who may not having been playing well under Lavy. I think Kuzy returning to Trotz form and Mantha gaining that confidence as you said would be successful. For the team, it was extremely frustrating to see this team be checked out. In my honest opinion I think Lavy lost the locker room and it showed. Carbery coming in and showing he can motivate this team and bring them together would be success. Making changes is another thing. Lavy was so set in his ways it was painful at times to watch him deploy the things that weren’t working over and over again. The powerplay must be better. Ovie is the all time leading powerplay goal scorer and they were so bad last season. That needs to be fixed for it to be successful. As far as individual players, Ovie scoring over 30 goals. Kuzy bringing back his skill. Mantha getting confidence. McMichael carving out a roll. Alexeyev carving out a roll. Backstrom Oshie Carlson being healthy. Those to me would be a successful season. Playoffs would be nice, but this is now a process and I think just seeing a step forward and change in the organization would be success in terms of this season.

  3. I would characterize the situation as being an “extended rebuild”, and I’m not concerned about the playoffs. Championship caliber teams usually start by drafting high over several seasons. I think we’ll attempt to be competitive for Ovie’s sake, and I think that’s right..we owe him that much. At the same time, there should be a gradual selling mode, which will probably continue next trade deadline…
