Toronto Maple Leafs
Mitch Marner reached 500 career points with his 15th goal of the season last night, and also got back into a tie for the team lead in points after an assist on John Tavares’ empty-netter. Marner and Auston Matthews both enter Sunday tied with a team-high 46 points, with Matthews one goal shy of 20 on the season. William Nylander has a team-high 22 goals and is one point behind the team lead.
Ilya Samsonov turned away 22 shots in yesterday’s win over Detroit, which means Matt Murray is in line to start at Philadelphia Sunday. Murray’s appeared in 15 games this season but has lost three of his last five starts, including a 5-1 loss against Seattle in his lone start this month.
Philadelphia Flyers
While they remain 28th in scoring this season with 2.77 goals per game, Philadelphia’s come alive on offence. Travis Konecny became the first Flyer this season to reach 20 goals the last time they took the ice, as only three skaters have even double-digit goals. Kevin Hayes got to double-digit goals with a power-play tally in that 6-2 win over Arizona on Thursday. Hayes is Philadelphia’s All-Star nomination, and second on the team with 35 points.
Carter Hart came off injured reserve and started last Thursday in Arizona, stopping 21 of 23 shots. Hart is 11-11-6 on the season with a .911 save percentage. Samuel Ersson started the three prior games in net, winning all three and remaining as the backup goalie. Hart is expected to get the nod Sunday against Toronto.
