All depends what stamkos wants/ is comfortable with. He has enough money, but if some other team offers 6x $10m, I wouldn’t sign him either…
AllHailRedheads
Its all in Stammers hands… He sees what money we have, and what we can afford for him.. .If he wants more, then it will be it… It would def suck, but its a team-game and we dont have money to throw around… To fill his gap would be the bigger challenge…

This is all being blown way out of proportion, and I’m pretty sure Stammer didn’t want to cause all of this drama right before the season.

Here we go! The media storm started earlier than I thought. Can’t wait to hear nothing but this shit all season long until he signs or leaves.

Lies!

Man this needs to end before it ruins the whole season

Nothing can replace Stamkos on this squad. I think they could fall apart if they let him walk. He’s the leader and the core, and it will be a distraction for all the vets if they can’t make a deal with him.

Honestly the whole crushed thing is fabricated. We would not be crushed, sad sure, but this is about not tying up our money in highly risky old players.
Stammer doesn’t need money, if his priority is the lightning he will not get Pennie’s on the dollar, he will get millions just not a fat contract.
Killorn said the same shit, was given millions and turned it down for more millions. It’s on them
WeeklyDimension1908
That’s absolute lie. He’s the heart and soul of the team.
Hoid-the-Wit
Well I certainly would be.

They should have at least shown him the respect to have talked with the Captain to explain their plan. Yes, it’s a business. But, a business that requires heart to be your best.

Something we all need to keep in mind that while Friedman has accurate info, he gets his information from agents. Stamkos and JBB are both trying to use whatever leverage they can to get ahead in negotiations. JBB has all the leverage in a traditional negotiating sense but Stamkos and his camp can and are using the media to remind the organization that he is both a wanted commodity in the league and that the fan pushback if he were to leave would be intense. Friedman is always going to run what the agents want him to, that’s how he’s in the position he’s in.
Even Friedman says in the same podcast that the organizations perspective is that they want him to stay but they won’t just give him a blank check. This is all just noise, at the end of the day Stammer will be offered a contract (even if it’s not at the price point he wants) and he will have an option to take it or leave. Everything Stamkos has ever said gives me the impression he’ll take it.

This is all just clicky click shit.
The reality is that every team should have front office staff that feel that way. You can’t let these decisions be guided by pure emotion. You are also making business decisions.
It will work out or it won’t, but this hack ass journalism is why people don’t respect the media anymore

I have seen the love Steven has for Tampa. I don’t see him leaving for a multi-year contract over a few extra millions. This story has been blown miles out of proportion
Deadbolt2023
You all remember when the Leafs were gonna snatch him away from the Lightning?
Same media clowns ginning this up…
Look, he might actually leave when the season is up – I tend to doubt that, but you never know…
Still – that’s all to be played out down the road – right now it’s just s-stirring…

Hopefully we can do a 1 or 2 year, like 8-10m with an inferred agreement on a 2-3 year x 5m follow-up or something
Surely that’s cap circumventing but best path for both in terms of him getting the bag and Tampa and their cap space.
Allen_Koholic
Man, now I wish he’d been extended before the season started too, because this shit is stupid.
Wafflemonster2
He’s always seemed like a toxic little piss baby to me so I don’t blame them, especially if he’s asking for like $8-10 mil aav. Last years playoffs put the behaviour front and center on display
