americans sure have gotten soft
The irony of Canadian fans being irate…lol
I’m Canadian, and if both teams are equally competitive I’d choose to live in Miami over Calgary during the winter any day of the week.
You get paid more (less taxes), no one bothers you, you wear shorts everyday, and get to play hockey for a living.
Prove me wrong.
Tkachuk isn't wrong
He is 100% right
Why would anyone with talent want to play in Canada when you can get paid and win cups in the US. You only play in Canada i you want a paycheck (and can tune out the media noise).
He’s right tho and the outrage just proves that
Had a Denis Wideman Game Issued jersey. Stripped the jersey because I don't want to wear that. Almost got it turned into a Tkachuk a month before he was "traded" and realized Al McInnis wore the modern retro jersey in a Heritage Classic. Phew. I went from the most hated Flame, to the most loved and avoided a huge mistake. (TWSS) The McInnis looks deadly.
New headline:
Canadian hockey fans post nasty, toxic comments after NHL star says canadian fans can be nasty and toxic.
Tkachuk made me love the Panthers and I’m Canadian
As an American i am somewhat more of a Canada fan in spirit. It is a religion. It drives me nuts when I meet the soft fans that are all too common in the states. I understand both sides. It is like Brazil or Germany with football.
Hockey has gotten younger. Practically pee-wee level attitude and egos.
Matty Tkachuk is a coward punk.
His brother doesnt seem to mind, 8 years in Ottawa
Let's be real… the only reason this conversation happens is because the NHL has a hard salary cap that ACTIVELY prevents the wealthiest, most rabid hockey markets from simply outspending the charity cases of the League.
Remove the cap, or even allow a soft cap, and teams like Montreal, Toronto, NY and Boston would be able to simply CRUCIFY teams like Florida, Carolina, Arizona and Columbus. In an open market, there's no way Florida can even AFFORD Matthew Tkachuk. The ONLY reason Tkachuk can be consistently competitive in a weak, disinterested market is because the NHL brass want it that way.
I get that Tkachuk thinks he's got it easy. He's right. He does… but I also understand that this isn't about Florida's media being "nicer" than Toronto or Calgary. This is about a sports league that intentionally restrains its biggest fan bases so that teams like Florida can exist and be competitive.
I mean he's not wrong!! Matthews or Marner could get a hat trick one game, go goaless the next game, and the media and fans are trying to trade them lol
Most cities in canada have nothing going for them so hockey is the thing that everybody puts their identity into
tkachuk comments aint wrong
Nah, man the worst part of Canadian hockey is the fans.
Canadian fans and the media can be absolutely ridiculous.
Who cares, he’s right. The Canadian Fans and media are the worst. They are soft and easily offended and always looking for a way to bring down their own players. Canada is like Seattle if Seattle was a country.
That's the softest comment about Canada that we deserve. Our markets, and especially our Media, are the worst to deal with. High pressure, incredibly high expectations, and the players pay the most taxes. Florida has NO taxes. Yes, they pay an escrow, but cost of living/weather/and standards of living come into play. He basically lives in Miami now.
You can't control the fans we are passionate loud and love the game
Tkachuk can’t handle the heat or the pressure 😂
Fans create the pressure placed on the media then placed on the coaches and players
people talk about the canadian fans like they will stab their star players for making mistakes. now im not canadian and do not know the canadian fanbase or media but i would not want to live or play in canada with the talk of it being that bad.
edit: the reactions of the canadian fans is kinda just proving tkachuks point
Marner Mentally Tough Physically weaker
Tkachuk physically tough mentally weak
He's…not wrong
Am I a scumbag for being a Canadian?
Canadian media is toxic about hockey. No matter how successful your hockey team is the media is always over critical and it creates a weird narrative it’s exhausting
I mean, he’s not wrong.
Tkachuk speaks the truth. Ask O'Reilly. Add the income tax difference which is Zero in Forida and its a no brainer. It takes a special type of superstar who wants to play in front of a barn full of rabid fans. Its not for all of them.
Hockey is much more of a thing in Canada so it makes sense that the intensity is greater but a player shouldn’t have to put up with harassment from fans. It’s also very telling how lately it seems whenever a player leaves a Canadian market for an American one, their profile increases. Kadri left Toronto and won a cup, Phil left Toronto and won 3, Subban left Montreal and got Cup final appearance, same goes for Tkachuk. I mean the evidence is pretty damning
He's 100% correct! The sport is so attached to Canadian history and culture that every fan thinks they are an "expert." Then there's the moronic "media" in each city. 99% never played the game, yet still are allowed to spew "opinions" about players performances, usually to create click-bait controversy. Does anyone remember how many games the Leafs won AT HOME during last years playoff "monkey off back" games? Their gag reflex began in the car driving to their home rink just because of the fish-bowl pressure.
He's NOT lying !
Makes sense why he went to florida then, if he doesn't like pressure to win.
How dare he say the truth!
What I take issue with is, why do we only hear about this when it comes to hockey? Kawhi Leonard Left the quieter NBA Toronto to go to big time L.A. Why don’t we see more ball players packing for Toronto rather than NY and Boston? How come we don’t see more NFL capable players in the CFL. It seems this is the only sport where the whole “the media is too much” issue keeps rearing its ugly head again and again. It’s the only sport where players complain about the spotlight.
No pun intended 😆
The southern teams vs canadian teams stuff from some fans is cringe. Tkachuk spoke his mind and probably what alot of players are thinking. Good for him.
He is not wrong.
Wait… Isn't that a compliment?? Canadian fans are WAY more involved in the sport? What's wrong with what he said?
I've never met a nice Canadian
I can never understand when players say stuff like this, you're playing hockey in a country that loves hockey, it's like playing soccer in Brazil or England, or Football in the US, or Basketball in the US. To us, Hockey is what decides weather a city is a laughing stock or not, hockey is literally our self worth. If you can't handle Hockey at it's best, then you can't handle hockey at all. How dare we be passionate about our teams
I can respect what he's saying. But if a Canadian team does win the cup look out, that is going to be the wildest championship parade to ever exist. Imagine how fun that would be for the players. There would be nothing like it. But This mentality of Tkachuk is kind of soft…okay u can't handle being in a Canadian market we get it you can't take the heat bc your soft..
Especially montreal and toronto. Those fan bases just absolutely stink and smell like sht.
People forget this is their job and the places they play are essentially their work place. Some guys wanna play hockey and actually have fun, and that's fully in their right. If he doesn't wanna play in a Canadian market because media and fans can get really toxic (which they definitely can), then he just wont play here. THAT'S OKAY. He's happy in Florida, earn money playing a sport he loves, and all those comments are seething… I think he won.
Hot Take:
– the closest Matthew Tkachuk will ever come to winning a Stanley Cup was 2022-2023.
And it was a 9-3 loss to Las Vegas. I hope he likes golfing.
