Alexander Holtz Playing in The Top 6? On a line with Timo Meier & Nico Hischier To Start Camp!

Hockeys Back and with the start of training camp some interesting news and updates came out and the most impressive one was regarding one if the NJ Devils top prospects in Alexander Holtz. When the line combinations came out alot of people were shocked to Holtz being on a line with Nico Hischier and Timo Meier. Then another line showed Jesper Bratt with Jack Hughes and Tyler Toffoli. Does this mean Mercer will be on the 3rd line with Palat and Haula. I know this is just the start of Training camp but Holtz Playing in The Top 6 and the way Tom Fitzgerald and Lindy Ruff are talking about how good he looks is very impressive for the Devils Depth this year.

  1. Love to see Holtz on those top lines.. let him earn that spot though.. if they wanna start him on 3rd line with Palat/Haula and work his way up, thats great too.. i just want to see this kid stay up, he played great when he was in UticA..

  2. Holtz has a big chance, I’m not a fan of his game but I hope he proves me wrong and succeeds .It will be interesting to see what happens if everyone is healthy. They have 14 forwards not counting Clarke, Thompson or Tierney. If Foote and Lazar are healthy scratches on opening night that would be a good thing. There will be plenty of injuries and opportunities for all 14 guys to play.

  3. If he's actually 'arrived' it would make the team ridiculous 🎉 I'm serious 😂 We have so much talent that sometimes I think we're being punked😊 LFGD Always and Forever 💥

  4. If Holtz keeps up the pace, start him on the 1st line, but keep Mercer in both 1st & 3rd lines. Gotta help both players keep up their numbers.

  5. Holtz will have to show me A LOT to justify bumping Mercer out of the top 6, at least to begin the season

  6. Holtz is going to have to be pretty amazing throughout training camp and preseason to get a top 6 spot. I think the smart move would be the pair him with two vets like Haula and Palat and roll those top 3 lines and let him grown into his skates with more NHL ice time than he got before. If he's able to really impress and earn a spot in a top 6 situation, then that's fantastic. But right now it's just training camp and i wouldn't read much into any lines players are working with yet.
That said, i really hope Holtz does make that big step and is able to challenge for a top spot soon. If he can be that shooter we hoped for, he's going to make this offense even more lethal.

  7. Hard to judge…the chemistry with Nico and Mercer last year was phenomenal. Hate to see that get broken up, but you gotta trust in Fitzy and Lindy to make the best decision on where to put this kid. I hope he pops this year, whatever line he's on.

  8. Those lines are very preliminary . Top 6 spot will be earned , not given . Nevertheless I wish all the best to Holtz regardless which line he plays .

  9. This is the right move. Keep him playing at a high level on a top line. Of course things will be bounced around but this is why they drafted him, to be a top line player. Holtz Is a scorer and needs scoring chances: this is his best situation to do that! Can you do a video about Keith kinkaid coming back?

  10. I really hope he has a great start and his confidence just takes off. I feel like that's a big factor for him (aside from the obvious skating and 'play away from the puck' issues last year). Hoping for the best

  11. If Holtz makes the team, I think it's less important what line he starts on. I have a feeling that the Lindy blender will continue, and I don't think that's a bad thing, particularly early in the season.

You play well, you get more minutes. It's a bit more like basketball than old school hockey. The whole team on board for any situation, even if who gets in what situation is different.

We're going to be an offensive juggernaut this season with or without Holtz popping.

  12. Holtz position in camp currently is merely wishful thinking.
Giving Holtz truly every opportunity to make the squad & succeed. I honestly don't see a situation where Holtz is on any of the top 2 lines.
Then again, his play away from the puck is not at the point where the 3rd or 4th line doesn't make much sense for him.
I would hate to see Mercer bumped down so NJ can kick Holtz's tires.
Mercer playing with Haula & Palat would be terrible for Mercer. Mercer us so good and so diverse thay he get shuffled all too much. He was scorching last season until Timo can aboard and the lines shuffled all about.
At least Holtz currently looks better & is skating better.
Love the construction of this team with the lunch-pail additions in the off season. There are a loads of veteran additions that are going to come in really handy.
Bottom line, NJs top 6 forwards are the best in hockey without Holtz.
If the kid can cut the mustard it will be a nice boost.

  13. Haula did such a good job with Jack last year I say play Holtz with Haula and maybe he can do the samething
