  1. I get why Juolevi was picked in the first place. He was a 2 way potential top 4 D-man with hockey sense. If he had become that top 4 D-man, there's an argument to be made in picking him over Tkachuk, especially give the fact that right now, we could really use a top 4 d-man who scouted as Juolevi did in that draft. But the injuries, as well as getting hit hard with COVID, an illness a lot of people have actually died from or at least suffered long term negative effects from, have clearly derailed his development. I get on Benning a lot more for his UFA signings and picking Virtanen over some of the more obvious ones than I do Juolevi over Tkachuk. We needed and still need a top 4 d-man, so arguably, even now we should pick a d-man in the next draft over a top 6 forward for that reason alone, all things being equal. But at least we got something back for him. Juulsen is probably good enough to be a 6th or 7th defenseman on this team, something Juolevi wasn't going to be. It's a small upgrade from what we had, and you can't win 'em all at the draft table. Anyone who says Benning has been a terrible drafting GM was either born yesterday or has total amnesia. Up against any previous Canucks GM, in terms of drafting, he's better than all of them, including Pat Quinn.

  2. It was just a matter of time. Juolevi was developing even slower than Virtanen did. Two 6'2''/6'3" 200lb bodies in return – a 4th liner and a 3rd pair D-man – I like it.
