So in his tenure as an assistant coach with the Penguins (2017-18 to 2019-20), the Pens had the [first](https://www.covers.com/sport/hockey/nhl/statistics/team-powerplay/2017-2018), [fifth](https://www.covers.com/sport/hockey/nhl/statistics/team-powerplay/2018-2019) and [sixteenth](https://www.covers.com/sport/hockey/nhl/statistics/team-powerplay/2019-2020) ranked Power Plays in the NHL Regular Season respectively. During his time with the Devils in 2020-21 and 2021-22, their Power Plays ranked [twenty-eighth](https://www.covers.com/sport/hockey/nhl/statistics/team-powerplay/2020-2021) [both years](https://www.covers.com/sport/hockey/nhl/statistics/team-powerplay/2021-2022). In the prior two seasons, the Devils Power Plays were ranked twenty-second and twenty-first, so they did fall off under Recchi but at no point in those four years were they even close to top-ten in the league. As for the Pens, in the season prior to Recchi being promoted their Power Play was ranked 3rd in the League for the Regular Season, but was ranked 17th in the League the season before.

The way I see it, he should do just fine if he works closely with Pazzy and the skilled players the team has are allowed to thrive (KJ, Fantilli, Marchy, Laine, Gaudreau, etc.). I think that’s the best thing to hope for until we get a clearer look at how the PP functions in the regular season.
