Can’t be mad about that deal. Glad he’s sticking around and hopefully just a start of good things after all the bad news of the day

  2. Paulhockey77

Knew it was coming. Now he just needs the C

W deal, was worried it would be longer term at 5.5 mil but this is honestly a great deal, especially considering he will be our captain

Finally some good news in an extremely dismal day of announcements.

  5. Appropriate_Shape833

That’s a good deal for both sides.

2 years is perfect. People forget because he has aged like a fine wine and had a career year last year. But Backlund is 34.

3 more years of Backlund, and now he likely retires as a Flame

Not hating that. Definitely getting the C

That’s the deal I was hoping for. Cant complaint in the slightest

I dont like this contract. That AAV is far too high. 2.5 maybe 3.

This is a really smart move by the Flames, they have some youth coming but nothing up the middle. Suddenly Lindholm has just a touch less leverage.

Glad you’re still here Backs. Hopefully the team can find the chemistry to get you a cup in Calgary. Let’s gooo.

Love backs and happy to get a deal done in what has turned out to be a huge bummer of a day. Also much happier with this deal vs. 3/$5.5m

  13. Wow. That’s a great contract for the Flames. And guess that means we have him as a captain for the next 3 years is good with me!

  14. Individual_Potato629

Yes! So happy! O captain my captain!

  15. ArnieAndTheWaves

$9M is a lot, but he probably deserves it after last year.

    Great deal

    Let’s fucking go! Captain!

Captain on deck fellas! Look sharp!

Sweet 5.5 was definitely too much on a 3 year contact if you take a step back from your home bias

To a certain extent, this takes a little of the pressure off of Conroy to sign Lindholm assuming Backlund continues to play well. If we lost Backlund and Lindholm at the same time we would have a major problem down the middle that couldn’t be addressed through trade or free agency. We would obviously want to keep Lindholm, but Conroy might be able to replace him (to some extent) if he had to.
