Had to chuckle at the cats on WGR 550 AM (the radio voice of ’my’ Buffalo Sabres) this afternoon right after the news leaked out that the Leafs had signed ‘Johnny T’. And yes while they to acknowledged it, they were much more interested in chatting about the massive Sabres signings of ‘Curly, Larry & Moe’ today instead. 😋 All that said, as a Canadian/Torontonian, it does make me feel proud to see a player like Tavares sign with his home town team. Especially with him being such a humble, classy & hardworking player.
I almost shed tears when this was announced! My Leafs are absolutely stacked on offense now Tavarez, Matthews, Marner, etc. Now if they can concentrate on improving their defense they would vastly improve their chances of winning the Stanley Cup!

Let me all tell y'all something. Taxes. Toronto taxes and San Jose taxes are the highest in the league. And San Jose was already throwing so much money at Tavares, so the Leafs had to raise the bar to convince him, too.
I’m so frustrated. Out of all the Eastern teams, I was hoping he would sign with Tampa Bay. I was hoping that he would go to the West. Not Toronto or Boston.

This islander fan also says congrats to the leafs and their fans. He gave us the best years of his life and we thanked him with terrible goaltenders and did NOTHING at the trade deadline to convince him we were serious. Best of luck JT. We will miss you on the LIRR.
I am a big islanders and I know that many other islander fans are going to hate Tavares for leaving. I for one will not be mad. Tavares is moving to his hometown of Toronto so that he could be with family. This was his childhood dream so i am happy with Tavares. He will still be my favorite NHL player. Thank you for some great years JT and I wish you the best in Toronto. Let’s go ISLANDERS!!!
Good on Tavares for leaving Long Island for a team that's actually a contender. He is the only Islander I ever liked and I wish him the best of luck in Toronto.
