How did this play end up? The replay stops with the Leafs about to take possession with 4 Sabres at or below the hashes, although it looks like #8 (Richards) recognized and may have been able to get back quick enough to prevent the odd man rush going the other way.
Two things can be true:
That is a filthy set of moves. Good to see them in his bag of tricks.
He needs to learn when and where to use moves like that.
I think he has a real future here. I’m glad Appert has said the plan is to develop him as a defensive D since that will be his path to the NHL. With moves like that, he could be sneaky lethal. We have a lot of other talent teams will key on, which could open the occasional lane for Johnson to make a rush. I feel like Mike Ramsey was really good at that during the high-octane Muckler era. Everyone would be watching for the pass to Mogilny or Lafontaine, ignoring the “stay at home D”, and Rammer, with his better than average wheels, would take all the space given.
