WHERE DO THE BOLTS GO FROM HERE WITH VASILEVSKIY OUT?

Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy underwent successful back surgery on Thursday to address a lumbar disc herniation and will miss the first two months of the regular season, general manager Julien Brisebois announced. Gino Reda, Bryan Hayes and Frankie Corrado discuss where the Bolts go from here.

  1. OK. Here is the plan. Put Vasy on LTIR for the whole season. It’s his back, I mean who knows what goes on with that from day to day, you can milk that injury. Sign a veteran goalie. Sign like 4 other guys. Build a monster team. Bring him back for the playoffs. Watch everyone wail and gnash their teeth and rend their garments because the other teams still didn’t close the cap loophole. Championship.

  2. At the end of the season Tampa had the third oldest roster in the nhl, just ahead of Washington and Pittsburgh. These three teams are in decline and must address this issue.

  3. just destroyed my fantasy team. I need help, who should I pick up: Korpisalo, Merzlikins, Vejmelka or Johansson? Wins and shutouts get you points in my league.

  4. If it's too early for a current goalie prospect you claim someone off waivers because you have no assets to trade. This is still a bad option. The best option: offer a trade to LA for Rittich, Talbot, or Copley. They are league min, 1M, and 1.5M for this year only respectively. Copley was 24 – 6 last year. LA is not in the east so the trade is more manageable. What Tampa offers will be tricky because they don't have draft picks.

LA likely won't do this because goaltending is their biggest weakness, but they will one of those goalies to waivers for nothing if he doesn't make the team so recognize your unique position of strength and take advantage of a desperate team. Tampa can't claim rittich off waivers because Tampa has too low of dibs on waivers.

  5. It won't happen, but if Sogard is ready for backup duty in the NHL, and ottawa needs to dump salary to sign Pinto, so maybe Tampa would want Forsberg as a stop gap measure. However he is still under contract for next year, so that might not fit their cap plans. There's not much out there, this could be a big problem for TB
