Right decision imo. He had a great camp — I wasn’t convinced he had more potential than Barron initially and he convinced me by the end of it — but he definitely needs to work on his defensive decision-making, positioning, etc. Top minutes in the AHL with a Trudeau/Struble type will be great for him.

What is the difference in status for a loaned player vs a guy being sent down?
Salary? Call back conditions?
The___Colonel
Correct decision.

Right call. He had good flashes on offense but his positioning and decision making isn’t NHL level yet. He’s just going to shredded playing with the big club.
Hope he keeps improving but yeah Norlinder looks much more NHL ready than Mailloux

This is the right decision, he has a lot of great intangibles, rocket shot, puck moving ability, size, skating and a mean streak however I find his gap control and defensive positioning still needs a lot of work. There’s been numerous times where opposing players have beaten him wide. This is an easy fix and he’ll be one of our first call ups if there are any injuries or players that struggle.
Norlinder has more pro experience and that shows in his poise and positioning.

Norlinder boys we are still alive

So I guess that means Norlinder is the last man standing outside of Lindstrom who is injured

Last year I’d taken an interest in watching Mailloux play because of his shot and skills. I dont remember exactly how I mentally graded him against his peers, but now I’m thuroughly impressed with the progression.
Relative to his peers before and after seeing more games:
Shot: B -> A
Passing/Puck Moving: D -> A
Handling: A -> B
Skating and Mobility: A -> A
Off puck O-zone: B -> B
Off puck Dzone: F -> D
Transition: A -> C
Physicality: B -> A
Gap: C -> B
Looking very promising despite not being seasoned in some areas as I originally thought.

Not very surprising. He’s super impressive in a lot of areas and his raw skill is obvious but the kid plays super selfishly and is making ridiculous decisions thinking that his skating will get him out of trouble. He needs some tough coaching!

Norlinder wins the dman free for all, just like we all expected before camp started.

Go tear it up big dawg

That’s fine. We have too many D that need ice time. He’ll probably get top minutes with the rocket so that’s fine.
When management decides to trade Barron/Harris/Savard we could bring him up.
We’ll have a nice competition going on when David, Hutson and Bogdan (eventually) comes around. It’s crazy that the top players in the pipeline are still 1 to 2 years away. That gives us enough time to decide how we manage the depth.

Right call, this is a kid that screams “let me dominate my way up”, not throw me in the fire and see what happens.

He’ll be back
MetalFungus420
Awesome! Go kill it in the AHL and get all the big minutes! We’ll see him back up with the big club by next year 🤘

I love that he’s got a mean streak. Knocked down Matthews in the corner last night, don’t see that often
