This trade is just awful?

BREAKING! The Detroit Red Wings just landed Alex Debrincat right winger from the Ottawa Senators in a four year contract.

  1. As I sens fan I'm not sure if this trade is that good. He pulled off a pretty good season with us and was awesome on the powerplay so I think he should've stayed

  2. The initial trade was always going to be bad if Debrincat didn't extend in Ottawa. Everyone knew that. If they made the playoffs and went on a run, even one year would have been more palatable. As it is… sucks for Ottawa.

  3. Not awful at all. Dumb take. He said he only wanted to go to detroit. See what happened to Giroux? or Kane to the Rangers. Ottawa got more than they should have considering their hand.

  4. I hate when players leak that they want out. Ottawa management was handcuffed by Debrincat's actions. That considered, Ottawa did well with this trade and I'm not convinced that Debrincat was just having a down year. I think in two years time this trade will be analysed in Ottawa's favour.

  5. Lots of people hyping up the wings. Second year in a row where they made lots of off season trades/signings and it didn't do anything last year. Will have to see if this year is different

  6. It should be noted that Debrincat has a reputation as having very slow starts to the season. It was even worse with moving to Ottawa last season.

  7. As a Sens fan, I think Dorian made the best of a bad situation. ADB wasn’t gonna sign long term and he’s coming off a down year. I like Kubalik, and Sobrango miiiiiight make the NHL one day. The condition on the first sucks though, should’ve been our choice. Oh well, as stated best of a bad situation

  8. If the Sens land Tarasenko – a cup winner – a more complete player.. Then it'll be fine.

Plus Kubalik is an underrated player imo, gives the bottom six a scoring touch, dude can play PP too. Wild shot.

  9. Fleece, not nearly as bad as the fleecing Florida did by unloading Huberdeau and Weegar to the calgary in the Tkachuk trade but it’s a close second in terms of pure fleecing.

  10. Dorion should have just waited for the trade deadline and get more in a trade to a contender. Kubalik was bought out by the Hawks a year ago. He’s basically a throwaway player. Should have just waited for trade deadline next year and get better picks

  11. if josh norris was healthy this year i think we could’ve seen a different situation. going from primarily playing with towes and strome to pinto and batherson was spraying the cat with a hose. norris and debrincat wouldve made a deadly combo. wish we had that arbitration year to see it happen. i get hes american but i think he couldve settled if he was on a playoff team. best of luck in detroit please no tarasanko dorion.

  12. Commenters are nuts imho…. No way DeBrincat is worth $7M+… they got something for a player who didn't want to be there, and the Sens weren't going to sign.

  13. So no one is going to talk about how overrated Debrincat is and how his defensive play is so bad that his offensive play can't make up for it? If he returns to 41 goal form then maybe he's a break-even player, but not sure he could hold up in the playoffs (if Detroit could even make it with him playing a prominent role). Ottawa's mistake was acquiring him in the first place but they definitely win the trade with Detroit by dumping a one-dimensional overpaid smurf.

  14. I knew he wouldn't last in Ottawa, no way some who is your second line left wing makes 8mil
He needed to be somewhere where he'd be on the first line

  15. ADB is pretty over rated. Not a 200 foot player going to a team who is already bad at the 200 foot game

  16. I used to think being an NHL GM would be the coolest job ever.
    Not anymore.
Between all the no-trade clauses, loyalty to only the dollar, and spoiled egos on social media… no way. You can keep that gig.
And good luck with it. You’re going to need it.

  17. 25 year old who’s lowest goal scoring season was 27? (Not counting COVID bs season) I’ll take that 100%. Ottawa had us this year but I can’t wait to see them crumble under our fat cocks

  18. It’s not awful, it’s a tough spot to be in as the Ottawa GM and crappy for Sen fans.
But they some good stuff in return.

  19. Alex Debrincat isnt a good player, he is a Merc and only got good points thanks to his line mates

  20. Everyone here saying its a win for the Wings, Are forgetting this player that the wings got, put the Sens in a hard spot by stating he didnt want to be there, when a player does this to a team, it doesnt give that team much leverage when discussing trades with other teams.

I actually think this is a win for both sides tbh, Yes the Wings got the better end with receiving a good player, but the Sens also walked away with a player who may end up turning things around, they also get a pick in this also and they get rid of this distraction.

  21. Ottawa's going to have a better season than Detroit so this trade doesn't really matter. We've addressed the areas we needed to in the past year (defence and goaltending), just need to stay healthy next season. Let's not forget that Brady is the mayor of Detroit, he owns that entire franchise at the moment.

  22. This is BS man fuck this Detroit won the trade we literally got a high scoring top line player that we haven’t had in forever, and gave up players we don’t need and are no where near as good as debrincat.kubalik is a bottom 3rd 4th line forward who don’t score much.and sebrango just sucks he really does he’s not even one of our high rated prospects.that’s why he has struggled to make the roster all the time.

  23. The trade is as favorable as Ottawa could have hoped for. They had zero leverage in all of this, and Detroit/Yzerman knew it.

  24. Yzerman signed Justin Holl 3.4M for 3 years… traded for Yamamoto just to buy him out… he’s been dishing out millions for mid players

  25. The thing is Dorion shot himself in the foot, and stubborn about it. It was no secret, even when he was in Chicago, that he wanted to go to Detroit. To me, from everything I heard and read, Dorion knew Debrincat wanted to go to Detroit, kept it all quiet to be the key piece to sign Claude Giroux in free-agency. It's also no secret Dorion always wanted Claude Giroux, so in all fairness, the trade itself is pretty bleak, but that trade was a huge factor in bringing in Claude Giroux, then the trade out is what it is, but bringing in Debrincat did it's job to sway Giroux to sign with Ottawa. I will only forgive the trade itself depending what Dorion does with the first and fourth round picks. He's definitely not done, so there has to be a bigger play in mind, like maybe an offer-sheet to Lafreniere that will either cost a second, or a first and third depending on the offer sheet, or a play to maybe get Travis Konecny, as Dorion now has enough draft capital to possibly pull this trade off, while at the same time, possibly getting a third team involved to chew some of Konecny's cap hit, or completely solidify the defense in a trade with maybe Carolina for Pesce that could involve moving a Brannstrom and a prospect like an Ostapchuk or a Crookshank, and Detroit or Boston's first. Either way, there has to be more than this. They cannot run with this roster and make the playoffs. However if they get either Konecny, Lafreniere or Pesce, that should move the needle enough for Ottawa to make the playoffs.

  26. I found DeBrincat going to Ottawa a bit unusual in the first place, though Giroux also went there which I also found odd.
