The NHL is back with the pre-season started, every team is testing lines and having players make the case to be in the lineup for game one. The Leafs are trying John Klingberg on the Powerplay one and they have a tough decision to make with Alex Steeves. The Leafs dont need Stamkos. They have a younger version in Matthews. That would be the same mistake they made getting Tavares when they should have just stuck with the plan and built around Matthews. Marner Nylander and Reilly and saved that cap space. Tavares has been good. Just stopped the leafs from really gaining depth to the roster. Theres a reason why the lightning would even think to move Stamkos. I find teams tend to hang on to their stars a little to long to the point not only are they not getting anything in return for them but theyre almost paying teams and retaining a bunch of salary to get rid of them. I.E Jonoathan Toews. Kane, Keith, Seabrook, etc. The lightning would be very smart to get ahead of Stamkos' dropoff and move him for a massive haul of younger players to keep this team competitive and avoid a rebuild.
Right now you could easily get a top prospect and a couple firsts for stamkos. If they wait til hes 37-38 years old They get nothing. If Tampa was to do this it would be 200IQ play on their end and 0 IQ play on the leafs end
If Stamkos ants to come to the leafs and take a super home town discount of like 3 Mil or less then absoulutely. However i just dont see that happening.

All the leafs prospects suck I can name 60 that don’t even play AHL
