With training camp starting on Thursday, now is a great time to start our player season previews, and who better to start with than one of the more polarizing players on the Colorado Avalanche than Samuel Girard.
At this point we kind of feel like we know what we are going to get from Sammy G. His numbers could go up a tick, but don’t expect that season that comes out of nowhere and leaves his career numbers in the dust.
The one thing that will always be over his head is that cap number. He could potentially play on the 3rd line pairing and have a higher cap hit than the two players on the 2nd pairing.
We also bring up Val Nichushkin who is back in Denver and expected to speak to the media for the first time since leaving the team during their first round playoff matchup with the Seattle Kraken. Should we expect any answers about exactly what happened? Don’t count on it.
Finally, even though it isn’t Avalanche related, what’s going on in Columbus is one of those things just has to get talked about, no matter what team you are covering.

My two cents on the Girard question. He's undoubtedly a top 4 D on any NHL team, but like every player he does have his limitations (except for Cale of course). The thing that bothers me so much about all the people shouting to trade Girard – that's all they have to say. you ask them why should they trade him, and they say he's a bum and too small and can't compete in playoff hockey. ok, that's fine, what do you expect to get in return for him? they say like a first and a roster player or high prospect. so if he's a bum and can't hack it, how do you expect to get that kind of return for him? As for Nuke, yes he'll get asked the questions. i'm sure that he'll have prepared answers or a statement and then whether people are satisfied or not, i hope the media drops it.

What part of "it's a personal matter" do we as a society not understand? We don't need to know what happened with Nuke, why can't we just trust him that it was necessary and let it go?
Regarding Nichushkin, I only want to know, did he leave the team or was he suspended by the team? The reason why you never hear of him, his English is horrific considering how long he has been in the country. As someone coming from another country to the US, if my English had been that bad when I came to the US, I would have never gotten a job. But different rules for athletes than "normal" folks.
Here’s a perspective on Girard that might be slightly the same, yet different. I believe the Girard was hurt more than he or the team was letting on. I estimate this was for about a year and a half. If people notice, he started playing much more physical late last year; he really hadn’t before. When he played more physical, I feel as if he was wayyyy better.
I believe the Avs management is waiting for the best offer for Girard. Why rushing and get the minimum?
Love Girard, assignment sure, one of the best puck handlers on the team, and tough as heck (taking huge hits every night and rarely misses games).
On BabCOCK- NHL players are young, party a lot, and horny as hell. Let’s be real, the young guys have some “interesting “ photos on their phones. That’s their prerogative. That’s fine. BabCOCK probably truly did cross a line, but he was doomed from the start because he’s an overbearing dick.
You cant replace Sammy's value for what the cost is. He handles the puck well, has speed, his weak spot is being able to clear out the front of the net. Toews will be moved at the deadline before Sammy.
