Jack Campbell Not Destined To Repeat Detroit Lions History
Its fun to reminisce about the glory days of Chris Spielman playing linebacker for the Detroit Lions. Those were some great years for the Detroit Lions at that position. Since then it seems that it might have taken getting Spielman in the Detroit Lions front office to bring the team back up to that level of play at linebacker. There’s still a lot of road ahead, but Jack Campbell is no destined to repeat the mistakes of the linebackers that have been a Detroit Lions since Chris Spielman.
Detroit Lions Podcast Addresses First Round Linebackers
There’s a lot of history of picking linebackers in the first round of the NFL draft, not just for the Lions, but across the NFL. How have they fared? What makes a first round linebacker pick a good one? What are things to watch out for, and why is Ash excited about Jack Campbell becoming a Detroit Lion? Ash will do his best to help you understand what to look for on behalf of the Detroit Lions Podcast.

Im here on time, where are you? There you are lol
Cardinall sin
The TL;DW: lots of 1st round "off-ball LBs" are drafted due to athletic freakiness. When the tape doesn't show college instincts off ball, they dont show the ability to gain them at NFL level. Instincts with physical traits tend to work average.
Outlaw linebackers and play 6 edge rushers
"respectfully disagree" is Canadian for "bless your heart" đ€Ł
Marc Levy once said about Chris Spielman he was the most economical runner to the football heâd ever seen

Its just hilarious when I hear prognosticators say: "They couldve gotten a linebacker in later rounds."
I emphasize ""A"linebacker" not The linebacker.
Idc what dopey a** fans have to say. If itâs a need thatâs going to help us win, I could care less what the âfootball worldâsâ reaction is. Would you rather appease them or get who you want?
"There's lies, damn lies and statistics". The main problem is that the comparisons are not statistically valid. As a for example, the line used to be "never draft a Virginia WR, they're all busts.". And we took one of the busts in 1989 in John Ford in the second round. Luckily we ignored that and went back to the Virginia well in '91 for Herman Moore. Failure rate by draft round is not a valid statistical metric.
I have a vision of a specific person Ash was speaking to đ
I have watched a lot of analysis. A lot. I usually stop watching 2 minutes in. Because the person "analyzing " is going 100 percent statistics as if probability is completely set in stone or they are on an emotional regurgitating rant meaning they're just being Cowturd. Your evaluation from equally both a qualitative and quantitative perspective was refreshing. Thank you
None of the lbs mentioned sound like Campbell. Compare RAS scores. Piss poor evaluation
Damn this was a great topic!!! Havenât really heard anybody else go through all these old picks people wanted!!! Great job!
Enjoy your show…. I have a request .
Could it possible to do a show regarding Ragnow and the bad toe.. he's one play away from a D-line player stepping on that foot and ending his season.
I'm inclined to think the center position is in a bad place if Ragnow is outđ€
Thanks đ
This was fun.
Yooo i have the same mic lol
Davis' over pursuit was so heart wrenching to watch. Jack Campbell will do good things….I think….go get em Jack!
You could make the same argument for first round QBs. Mostly they don't pan out.
Excellent!,,
Excellent assesment
Big ten football is different than sec/nfl
Patricia, completely ruined Davis. Freaking shame.
Good stuff my friend is alwaysđ
I enjoyed this tremendously. Thank you.
They already said Gibbs & Campbell weâre not making it far if the Lions didnât take them.
Putting out all this crap about other players who were drafted in prior is such idiocy⊠hey how about I give a list of guys in the 1st or 2nd round who had alright careers
Ray Lewis
Clay Matthews
JJ Watt
Oh how about Chris Spielman
Hey remember when running backs were drafted with the 1st pick & receivers were last round Dime a dozen???
Do you hear that sound? Hete comes THAT TEAM!
Statistics dont mean crap.đ
I would compare Campbell to Brian Urlacher.
Brad knows. His intelligence has surpassed all past regimes!
