Lennox Lewis vs Oliver McCall 1 | 24th September 1994 | Wembley Arena, London, England | WBC Title

After defeating Frank Bruno & Phil Jackson next up for champion Lennox Lewis was the hard hitting American The Atomic Bull Oliver McCall. It was seen as a routine defense for the Brit. McCall would have other ideas. This would be the first fight and the 2 would rematch a few years later.

  1. This was a classic case of an all time great (Lennox Lewis) coming down multiple levels to box a sparring partner – albeit a world class one – in Oliver McCall, and hence letting his guard down – literally. The rematch showed the gulf in class; it's a shame it took Lennox two and half years to secure it, but, that's boxing politics for you.

  2. Lewis complained that the 10 count was fast, I just timed it on my phone from the moment he hit the deck (and you can just see the ref did the same as well) and it was 11.22 seconds from 1 through 10.
