$8,551 in cap space is classic Pridham. You sir are a genius.
Easton Cowan made the initial roster likely because his higher cap hit let the Leafs get within $9k of the cap prior to activating LTIR. Apparently a new rule means he has to stay there for a day, as does the rest of the roster. I imagine he gets sent down tomorrow, then we see Gregor signed to a league min deal.
On the plus side, I believe the kid’ll make almost $5k for that one day on the roster, which is a nice reward for being an accounting gimmick.
So the Leafs ACSL is $83,491,449 basically losing $8,551 for the year as Muzzin and Murray won’t be coming off LTIR. This also means they won’t be accruing cap space they could use for a deadline acquisition, but we knew that.
Tomorrow they will send Cowen to London and sign Gregor so [the opening night roster will probably be this.](https://i.imgur.com/GnuKshq.png) I suspect McMann is still a bit hurt so he will be a scratch for a little bit. The problem is after they take Timmins off LTIR they will have to waive McMann and play a forward down so 11/7 if they want to keep him. This would mean Minten is gone after 9 games and Timmins could be back on the 11th game [with this roster.](https://i.imgur.com/UDN6t4u.png)
A lot was up in the air this year, we didn’t know if Klingberg would start on IR or McMann on LTIR. Timmins going on IR and Minten making the team handcuffed Pridham, it wasn’t worth it to sign Gregor for ~$200k more than minimum salary just to save $8,551 in cap space cause he will be on the roster all year. Maybe they could have done what Vegas did and sign an ELC instead of a PTO candidate to maximise their ACSL and then just send him down…
So what’s the cap plan when Timmins comes back?
Why’s Mcmann on the roster?
Lets gooo
Things really will be interesting once Timmins comes back so the cap juggling isn’t over yet. But for the short term it gives the Leafs a bit more time to see what they have in Minten.
