The contracts are fair value for elite players, but the Jets lost some good offensive talent in PLD and Wheeler…

These contracts are the new 6.5 million dollar deals as the cap goes up. These are good contracts by Chevy
I think these contracts both are underpaying in the first 5 years, but it may be that they are overpaying in the last two. Considering the savings, and locking Helle in, it works out to Chevy spreading around the money over more years, which adds more flexibility up front, but still works out to roughly about the expected amount of money payed over all.
As a jets fan I'm shocked that both signed, I predicted that they would lose both, possibly have their hand forced at the trade deadline to deal them. Still a big hole at the second line centre position with the trade of PLD but Iafallo, and Kupari really improve the bottom six and Villardi is an upgrade over Wheeler in the top six.
I guess being pessimistic is wrong sometimes 😛

On paper, this deal looks fantastic. But, if the rumors are true about some bad attitudes and factions in the dressing room, this could be a disaster. Maybe, things are easily cleared up or have been, or perhaps there never was a problem (can't be the case by inference from Dubois' comments; I know people who work for the organization). Also, another drawback is Scheiffele's lack of defensive effort and his skating. As a fan, I really hope it works out. If things go south, this will doom the franchise and management should be completely overhauled.

Need a video on the value of players in mid 30s and above. Outside of HOF caliber, they are probably as a group below replacement level. If they’re being paid these enormous contracts…. Well then you’ll be screwed like the recent editions of the Black Hawks. These GMs signing these deals are probably not going to be around when it all blows up on these teams. At least the Wild only handed out 2 year deals…

Those look like damned nice deals. Helle's deal is a bit concerning but only because it runs to his later 30's. Highly unlikely it's an issue though.

I’ll admit I definitely thought Scheifle and Hellebuyck were definitely gone but it’s nice to see them stay. It would be weird seeing them in anything but a Winnipeg Jets jersey.

Very smart and good deal for the Jets. When the Cap increases, and with inflation at 4 %
per year, $ 8.5 million will seem like a steal, 4 years down the road. All it will buy you is
a second line center at best. Think "long term" on this deal, as it's really a winner. Helle is
in the Top 4 to 5 Goalies in the NHL ( check) and Scheifele is a # 1 center coming off a
42 Goal season ( check). The Jets need these 2 core players to build around. I very much
like this deal, and it's affordable.
It's a GREAT day in Winnipeg. The first line center and one of the best goalies in the NHL at very favorable contracts. In terms of percentage of the cap, both are not far off from where they were signed their previous contracts. They obviously want to win.
When they are "too old" the salary caps will be $30M/yr higher. Nice signing.
