I keep hearing excuses about Newhook like he wasn't given the ice time and lacked confidence"purely speculative".Nobody knows Newhooks confidence level but someone with a pretty good idea would have been Colorado's coach.
So in the final playoff game last year coaching seemed to figure the big guys weren't doing it so he gave Newhoook his most ice time in the playoffs and 26 shifts and Newhook responded with NOTHING.
The main goal of the manager is to build a team of players he thinks can perform in the playoffs.Well I also kept hearing Newhook won a cup well he had 7 shots on net in 12 games so really how much did he contribute?In 20 playoff games he totaled 15 shots an in that playoff cup year he had one assist on the PP so not like he wasn't given any good opportunities.
My point being is that Newhook was given a chance especially after Kadri left but he failed and imo he failed because he is not as good a player as people make him out to be.
I only listen to full podcasts if Grant is on.. never heard a more level headed scout..
If Slafkovsky makes this team again that would be a travesty disrespectful to all those hard working prospects trying to EARN a spot on the team.
Slafs is not good enough Newhook is not good enough but I am ok giving Newhook a chance to PROVE he deserves to play in pre season but sadly I feel preseason is going to be a FAKE showcase and that the lineup is already set.
Last preseason there were at least 9 prospects better than Slafkovsky so that was a terrible decision by management to put him on the team above others that DESERVED it.
Interesting take… probably right… but i think it's more like: newhook needs another 2 years to perfect his game, colorado simply dont want to wait as they are in win NOW mode… i think he'll be our Future 3C / 2winger
What will bother me is no matter what Newhook is a bust people will still be saying great signing and that he is better than he really is.Can habs fans show a little less bias a player needs to EARN praise so we need to quit praising sub par and mediocrity.
Just because Galchenyuk is a famous hockey player and millionaire; he’s not exempt from being a POS. Don’t blame his father. I had an extremely abusive father, and I didn’t end up like that.
i've been floating a trade proposal out there:
to wsh – mike hoffman (50%), joel armia, vinzenz rohrer (prospect), 2025 4th
to mtl – anthony mantha
my reasoning is, all 3 NHL players need a change of scenery. hoffman and mantha have both scored in the past, and maybe armia finds his game somewhere else. eating half on hoffman means we lose 50k in cap space, not much at all. mantha is from quebec, so maybe that helps him. rohrer and the pick go because the caps need a bit of incentive to do this. not too much, but not nothing. rohrer could be a bottom 6 forward at the NHL level.
my main purpose, though, is that we have no salary commitment to any of the players beyond this season, and it opens up a roster spot for a guy like farrell, roy, or heineman, as we're sending two out and bringing one in. even if mantha sucks, the deal is worth doing.
Always a good show with Grant… He should be on weekly…

I'd like to see Dvorak up on the RW with Suzuki & Caufield. He can help with important face-offs, but it will give him a real opportunity to open up his offensive game. His junior stats were on par with Mitch Marner, so let's give him the linemates to be nothing but 100% offensive minded and "just play his game" like MSL likes to see.

Another player that had a weird fallout is Jonathan Cheechoo, after two seasons of 56 and 37 goals, he ended up disappearing.
I have an odd question…. Why do you Tony, repeat full sentences with on word change? Example is, “live on YouTube, live on Facebook, live on instagram” why not group it like most other people do? Example “ live on facebook, YouTube, and instagram……

Not to sure if grant remembers this but Slafkovsky has played with Monahan and Anderson last season lol…. Slafkovsky got 5 points in 7 games while playing with Monahan… Calgary Vs Montreal Slafkovsky scores the first goal of the game in the first minute of the first period assisted by Sean Monahan….
