Shoutout to every bozo in the last thread who told me Johnston wasn’t a valuable player and would go through waivers…
As he immediately got claimed by the very first team on the waiver order.

Well, that’s a shock. And a relief to be rid of a contract that was insane the day it was signed. I guess Brent Thompson must have put in a good word?

Terrible job by Lou not getting something for him here. /s

This is both shocking and whatever. He wasn’t getting minutes. I don’t think he’s just a goon. He has done decent talent but we have several players who are better.

I can’t believe after all this time of being mad we wouldn’t waive him it actually happened lol.
It’s not the end of the world but it kinda sucks a little. It was nice to be able to not worry super hard if Martin got hurt because we had a backup goon lol, plus it’s allegedly a big locker room loss. Honestly smart move for the Ducks.

I did like Ross the Boss. I’ll never forget his first line snipe in Tampa back in 2019

Clearly everyone in the sub knew better than the front office saying he’s not a guy that any NHL team would value

I can’t be the only one who liked Ross and is a little sad about this…right

love ross but it’s time to move on from him.

Think Brent Thompson had something to do with this?

Finally, free from a roster spot occupied by Ross

Oh lord happy days! Anyone saying “Oh I thought he wasnt a valuable NHL player?!” – he is a valuable player to some teams – however this team has too much gritty fourth liners on it already.
He may be valuable to someone else – but he was a drain on this roster as currently constructed.
Well I knew someone was going to claim him even though I got dragged in the last thread about this. He has a role to play and with Martin getting older he was about to come into it. Sucks to see him go I really enjoyed watching him play.
The isles are going to miss him for sure when they start getting bullied this year.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate Johnston, but I’d much rather see Lou forced to play someone else than rely on that walking boxer on skates. Give that time to Dufour, Maggio, Durandeau, etc.

Realistically with Gauthier it really removes the need for Ross as well even more. Martin will retire eventually, and we’ll need a new go to fighter, but we can find that.

That opens a small chunk of cap space. I wonder if that might give them the ability to get Parise back in the fold.

Wonderful news. Thank you Brent Thompson sleeper cell for claiming your guy

Beyond this season, this has opened up another $1.1m in cap space. Next season was pretty tight at just over $4m, but team gets some breathing room now.
