    LW, 29, 234lb 3 years left of salary, 1.1AAV

Apparently he came up through the Islanders system along with Cronin and played under Brett Thompson, so there’s that

  2. Eh I am whelmed. At most this guy is a Deslaurier-esque replacement on the fourth line. Maybe some insurance depth because it sounds like Mcginn has been missing practices for an unknown reason?

Also explains why Carlsson was moved to IR today though; they needed to open up a roster spot for the waiver claim without having to pass any of our own players through waivers.

  3. It’s just a warm body with Carlsson going on IR.. wouldn’t look too much into this. I doubt he gets many games.

Edit: didn’t realize he had three years left. Bizarre claim. Why not just sign Kassian for league minimum?

Verbeek simply could not resist a 4th line MMA fighter who can’t skate or hold a stick on waivers

I assume this is because Kassian didn’t work out

$1.1 million isn’t going to be an issue in the next 3 years lol

  6. Veteran, face punching, 13th forward whose cap hit can be fully buried. I don’t hate it. Young guys could use some protection at both levels.

We switched from Carlyle to Boudreau because the league had changed and the amazing aggression and intimidation no longer worked due to penalties. Now we keep adding big slow can’t score players as if you can clutch, grab, and pound your way to victory. Couldn’t Regenda fill this role?

It seems like if a guy is 6’4”+, GMPV will eventually have him on his roster. Am I the only one thinking we are going to get hammered by teams with speed?

Islanders fan here. When it comes to dropping the gloves he’s one of the best in the sport at doing it. When it comes to everything else he’s one of the worst in the league. He has no stick ability whatsoever, can’t move the puck, can’t retrieve the puck; it’s just bad all the way around. I don’t think he has any value to a team unless they’re actively trying to lose while getting the people who show up an hour early to cheer on fourth line face punchers into the building. Hopefully he’s just that 23rd man on the roster that only comes in during an emergency.

Well it’s a good thing they kept zegras/Drysdale contracts low. I was concerned they just wouldn’t use the savings over the next three years at all but now I understand they’ll bleed it away slowly on players who won’t help them win

Let’s go. There’s our replacement for Deslauriers that fans have wanted. In a season where we aren’t going to win anything, you might as well make the team as entertaining as possible (which is why I wished they kept Kassian as well). Hey, he can even grow with the team if he has any room for improvement

I’m really struggling to understand this team trading away Deslauriers if all they were going to do is cycle through all the other enforcers in the league who can’t play as well as him for the next few years. Not that a third wasn’t a good return but if you want a face puncher that bad hold onto the one who knows which end of the stick to hold onto at least.

Hmmm. With the trades we do, with the signings we do, with the picks we made.. I doubt we’ll ever become contenders under PV. This team will be so outplayed by teams that play actual hockey. Everybody’s saying we needed some punches to protect the young ones. But if you play someone like this, it’s like you played with 4 players only instead of 5.
