GAME RECAP: Penguins vs. Blackhawks (10.10.23) | Penguins Open Season Against Bedard

The Pittsburgh Penguins opened their season at home against the Chicago Blackhawks Tuesday night at PPG Paints Arena. The Penguins started their season strong, scoring the first goal of the game. Kris Letang took the puck into the zone wide and threw it on net. Bryan Rust was able to get a stick on the puck for the tip to get the puck past the Blackhawks goaltender 7 minutes into the 1st period. By the end of the opening period, both teams received one penalty each, and the Penguins led 1-0. The 2nd period was a fast-paced period of back-and-forth chances. Breaking the back-and-forth with a goal was Sidney Crosby on a cross-ice pass from Jake Guentzel. Penguins took a short-lived 2-0 lead: about 5 minutes later, Chicago’s Ryan Donato cut the lead in half. With that goal, Connor Bedard earned his first NHL assist. The 2nd ended with the Penguins holding on to a 2-1 lead. Halfway through the 3rd, Cole Guttman tied the game 2-2. The Blackhawks gained some momentum from the goal and were able to get the go-ahead goal with five minutes left in the game. While the Penguins fought back, they were not able to even the score again. Chicago scored their 4th goal of the game on an empty net, with the game ending 4-2 in favor of the Blackhawks.

  1. Great start just to throw it away like always, please don’t let this be the same as last season

  2. Still a garbage team. We won’t make the playoffs again this season. Absolutely pathetic. Goaltending is horrible. Jarry needs to be benched or traded.

  3. Typical Penguins loss. Expected more from the power play but they just dont put the puck on net enough. More defense + goaltending needed too, blowing a 2 0 lead in the first game is egregious at best

  4. SOP, same old penguins, having a lead and just giving it away. Welp time to start drinking for 82 games straight

  5. It’s only one game everyone but I will see if we don’t make itWe have no first pick I said we should’ve just excepted the rebuild we had a good run but it’s only one game

  6. All the so-called moves in the off-season to make the team better, and we get this garbage?! Dubas is an idiot for keeping Jarry… he could have gone out and got Connor H from Winnipeg or John Gibson from Anaheim but instead kept a guy who can't make a simple save. Tonight, he let up 3 bad goals.

81 more games, and I hope Jarry loses every one of them.

Letang looked horrible on defense. So did Graves. Jeff Carter needs a pink slip just coasting around the ice, not skating hard at all.

    Awful game. SMH

  7. All those off-season moves for the same old penguins to show up in the end. Anyone else tired of blowing two and three goal leads or just me?

  8. The puck did go out on sidneys goal. I have it on video and was right in line with the blue line. Was out by a few inches. Penguins fan here by the way.

  9. I’m not sure they said Connor Bedard’s name enough times on the broadcast.😂 If you had to drink every time ESPN said his name, you’d be in a coma by games end! ESPN (and other media) ruins everything by overhyping!

  10. I've been a Penguins fan since 05 but that second goal was definitely offsides. Just saying
