If you support, go for it.

    If you don’t, abstain.

If you disagree with the player’s stance, don’t be a dick to them because there’s disagreement.

Should be simple, but here we are.

  2. Can’t believe I have some respect for Marchand now

  3. No_Industry1933

They made a big deal over Provy not wanting to wear a pride jersey correct? Now they ban everything! Could all have been avoided if people just minded their own business, supported who they wanted too, an most importantly just played hockey.

  4. The ads on helmets/uniforms are gayer than the pride tape.

  5. Brookie069

They should just collectively do it… if bunch of players (especially stars) from various teams lash out it’s gonna put the NHL in a bad spot.

  6. likesexonlycheaper

God damn it. Why you gotta make me agree with Marchand on something?!

  7. TheFoundation_

Hot take: the nhl knows the players will act out against the ban. It’s a marketing ploy.

  8. TheBrandroid

couldn’t players just get the individual colours and tape it up like that? technically that isn’t pride tape

  9. Hot_Recognition1798

this is the first time i think i have ever been on the same page as ratface.

but yes, you shouldnt be made to do anything, either way.

I agree with Marchand. You should never be forced to do something you don’t want to. And this is coming from someone who wouldn’t use that sort of tape on my stick. If people want to, they should be allowed to, if I don’t want to, I shouldn’t have to. It’s simple. Let people choose what they wish to do.

  11. Can’t wait for gambling appreciation night. Get $5 off your first parlay.

  12. Juice_Wigalow

Three different players, three different takes. Divisive issues like this have no place in sports. I like Nose Faces take the best.

  13. I still think Morgan Reilly woulda been the best captain

  14. garbagebailkid

Mars/M&M is missing a spectacular opportunity to spam Skittles ads on the jerseys and boards

  15. LittlePrincessVivi

Happy to see some players sticking up for basic human decency.

If you have a problem with this but not any other appreciation or pride night than you’re a problem.

As a queer life long hockey fan I don’t really care if you support me or not. What I do care about is how the young people see themselves. Are they reflected in our game? Do they feel safe playing our sport? Look at the television and seeing their heros with a pride sweater or pride tape makes the answers yes. Knowing that in the locker room guys like Matthews, Mo, McDavid even the rat Marchand don’t judge the guy next to them for his skin colour, his religion or who he is attracted to makes them feel accepted, safe. If the team can sell their stars pregame skate worn sweater for $1,500 and a stick with rainbow tape for $300. That’s $1,800 that will help the community. If it’s for Pride or Breast cancer or vets or the First Nations People does it hurt you? No. Not at all. Can $1,800 make a difference? Hell yes. That’s shelter for homeless vets or counseling for a queer kid or thousands of information packets for cancer. It could be the last bit of help a First Nations Person need to make it through the winter.
If wearing a rainbow or an orange shirt or a pink ribbon or a poppy bothers you then don’t wear it.

How many of the people screaming about players being forced to wear the Pride sweaters blew a fit because of Grapes getting fired? Same foot different shoe.

  17. Never thought I’d be saying this but… fuck yeah Brad Marchand

  18. JerbearCuddles

You know you’re on the wrong side of history when you got us agreeing with Marchand. Come on NHL, be better.

  19. linuxlifer

Its pretty simple… the jerseys were forced on the players so ban the jerseys… This is perfectly fine because it puts the outliers in a really shitty position.

The tape was always optional…. so let it stay optional… if you opt in then cool. If you don’t then cool.

  20. sugarmatic

If players say they use black tape to recognize the importance of access to hockey for POC would the nhl ban that? Or use white tape to support world peace and a call for ceasefire in worldwide conflict would the nhl say “no you can’t use that tape then?”

  21. PaleAdagio3377

Wonderful to see, you also have the best player in the game stating the same. What a horrible look for the NHL. Unfortunately, it’s mostly the Russian players that have a problem with pride night

  22. LogieThePerogie

Lets be honest Gary Bettman and a bunch of NHL players are homophobic like who is seriously that stupid to the point where you cant support the lgbtq+ community. If players want to use rainbow tape use it if they have a problem with it screw it do it anyway

  23. MIKKOMOOSE99

I’ll take the extra crispy tenders with extra blue cheese.

  24. I’m glad to see big name players joining in on this viewpoint, if enough of them rebel this rule will get dropped because there isn’t shit the league can do about it.

It doesn’t matter if you believe in it or not, restricting players from supporting a cause is not right.

  25. Spritestuff

Im a caps fan so I’m not allowed to like philly but Scott Laughton is awesome. Takes a real soul to look at a bullshit rule and say “I’m going to do it anyway”

  26. Bluepanther512

Nice to see players having more spine than the NHL.
