The Nikon Zf is shipping globally, there is so much more than meets the eye with this stunning new release. Nikon has hit it out of the park ⚾️ 📷, actually maybe more than one. Let’s discuss.

15 years ago or so, my Ultimate digital camera would've been an FM-2 with only ONE additional feature: a spot meter. Bought the Df when the unused "used" copies hit KEH about a year after introduction; it's my go-to for landscape, astro, macro and "snapshots". This new Zf would be a no-brainer if I switch to the Z mount (probably too old to think about that) but, I just noticed a day or two ago, the Zf…. doesn't have….. a Spot Meter!
Guess I'll stick with my Df and D500 for my remaining years on this particular rock.
Time to get rid of my Fuji equipment. Nikon all the way now. I may just wait to see what a 6III will be, if there is one.
I don’t mean this as an insult, and I don’t know how to describe it any other way – but this man moves his hands eerily similarly to a Jim Henson muppet. At least in this video.
I also received my Zf Black Camera body yesterday; this will replace my Zfc camera. The 12-28mm PZ lens works beautifully on the Zf camera as well as the Leica 50mm Summitar f2 and the Elma 90mm f4, both with the m39 adapter. Now I have a camera I can use my old Nikon lenses on, which in time, I'll try out. What a great retro camera, I'm very happy with it.
A hobbyist Upgrading from a 3 year old nikon z50. One complain I have is that nikon dont do apsc lenses enough. But this time im glad all my z lenses are full frame except for sigma 16mm. Delivery here in Japan is on the 27th.
I wish they had one with the 28mm SE in the bundle. I'm still waiting to order mine. Maybe Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales.
Hi Matt, I eagerly await the arrival of my ZF in Black later today here in the UK, to compliment my Z7II. Having downloaded the ZF manual from Nikon's website I notice 2 items which no one has mentioned yet. They may well be in the Z9 & Z8 but I do not own those cameras.
1st Diffraction compensation. 2. Glove mode. The first one made me think if this is the beginning of a new sensor with the processor for the Z7III which will almost certainly be a high megapixel count? The second one may not apply to you down under!!!!
This is a camera that I wasn't going to buy when it was first rumoured, but I have ordered one mainly because of the in body image stabilization and the manual focus aids. I have just taken delivery today of a 40mm Voigtlander F1.2 . Beautiful lens and can't wait to try it on the ZF. Slower, more considered landscape photography.
Sure seems like the z8 is getting shaded these days. Don’t get me wrong, z8 is a fantastic camera but z9 continues to advance with new features and ZF has features more advanced than z8. Hope things like Touch FN, focus centric VR, manual focus Subject Detect, etc. eventually show up in a firmware update in z8.
Definitely interested in the ZF , the retro styling that I haven't got into yet would be a very interesting difference to my other Nikons
and the tech is cool , in olive green , black or if they bring out a silver and black with brass knobs ya! , it's hard for me to decide .
Initially was really thinking the green (moss green they call it I think) but I don't know if that will stand the test of time very well.
I don't want to be as much of an early adopter this time if I decide to get one because that was a bit of a hassle with the Z8 (but still glad I got it)
and I want to see if there are much heating issues with the expeed 7 in the small body (heard a little bit so far),
great to see Nikon really slamming the ball lately , some patience before has paid off.
Not sure why everyone is hating on the micro sd card. In my opinion, just put a big fast one in and forget it. It's there if you need a backup. Maybe you will never even need to take it out.
The more I see this camera, I like it. Just got the Z8, so my gas is cured for a while!
If I were strictly a stills shooter I would have a couple of these! but for what I do the Z8 is perfect for me.
Z6 user and not interested in upgrading to the Zf. Like you said you could shoot wildlife with it but would you want to buy this as your wildlife camera? I’m happy that they are moving the exceed7 to the lower lines but have the auto-focus improved while it's still using a 5-year sensor
Totally agreed with you, Matt. The Zf is going to be quite popular amongst Fujifilm users for sure as it is soooooo good.
Anyway, happy to report that we got our Zf and Plena yesterday and immediately took them out right after the rain stopped and my son who did a test on the Zf was happily gave it a thumbs up. He got a Nikkor Z 24-120mm on it.
Also, happy to report that the Plana performed perfectly well with my Z8. It actually makes my photographs look better without me doing anything.
Thank you for all your advices on the Zf, the Plena as well as a 180-600mm lens 👍
Go Nikon!🎉 Conquer the market.
Hoping that you will gove more firmware updates to your cameras specially to Z9, Z8, Zf
Another great video Matt and looks like a powerhouse of a camera!
I’m thinking (or perhaps hoping) that Nikon must already be working on a camera based on Expeed 8.
the ghost of my FE says….im holding on to my 3500 its doubled in price uses my best lenses and is 24 mp
Mine Arrived yesterday 12.10.23. it is absolutely gorgeous, and feels so much more refined compared to my Z7. cant wait to put it though its paces.
Wow 😮I love ❤️ this color
It seems to be the Expeed processor's speed is severely limited by the SD card only? I presume that has no effect on AF speed though?
What camera did you use to record this video??? 😮 The entire video you pulsed in and out of focus. Had to just stop watching and listen to you 😢
oh, you got the poo-brown one, i got the pedestrian black…
About Fuji shooters: Yep. I was a Nikon full-frame shooter before reducing size and weight to Fujifilm in 2014 with the X-T1. I’ve only upgraded once, to the X-T2 in 2016. Sony mirrorless was not good back then, and I stuck with Fuji all the way through til today, even as Sony improved IMMENSELY over the years. (To be honest, I could have saved myself a few big XF lens purchases and switched to Sony 5 years ago, but I didn’t because shooting with a Sony never felt intuitive or artful to me.) Now that Nikon and Canon are actually competing in mirrorless, and particularly now that Nikon has revealed the Zf, it’s time to come back. I have the Zf preordered. You are absolutely correct.
I am a nikon shooter and love that sunset orange Zf…that is what I will order. Great coverage of this "Trojan Horse".
Z6III with 28 megapixels stacked sensor with the same image processor as Z8.
Hi Matt, yep…. going to be ordering one soon, the classic black. Coming from shooting with the Z6, Z50 and Z FC in my arsenal… the Zf is a logical next evolution. I even widened the scope of my Z FC facebook group to include the Zf and any further Nikon retro camera's. I would call myself a semi-pro photographer, as I make a few bucks here and there from time to time, but for the most part I am a serious photography enthusiast, and I judge camera club competitions as an accredited judge.
