  1. As a huge Ovi fan I don’t think anyone can definitively say either of them. They are both incredible players and play the game very different. We have been extremely lucky to have witnessed them play.

  2. You can't compare Ovi and Sid in a very meaningful way. They play different positions…

If I'm building the greatest line of all time, Wayne is at center and Ovi's on LW…

  3. Bryan Hayes was the only one who answered the first question correctly.

"WHOSE CAREER WILL HAVE BEEN MORE SPECIAL?"

Dave Poulin made an argument for why he believes that Sydney Crosby is an all-around better hockey player than Alex Ovechkin.

As great as Sid is in both what he's achieved individually and for his team, it doesn't trump the fact that Ovi will most likely surpass Wayne Gretzky in ALL-TIME REGULAR SEASON GOALS (894). It's a record that the majority of hockey fans believed that'll NEVER be beaten. How many people laughed and called Ovi's fans crazy when they said that he's going to pass Gretzky's 894 regular season goals? As recent as a few years ago, I've come across comments of people mocking those who said that Ovi is the greatest goal scorer and will beat Gretzky's record.
So at the end of the day, Ovi's career will be significantly more special because he will be regarded as the greatest goal scorer with the most career regular season goals scored of all-time! This cannot be argued!
You can look at it in the following way. Will future NHL fans, 20, 50, 100 years from now, know about Ovi and/or Crosby?
Currently, Crosby is 29th All-Time in Goals (551, 16th All-Time in Assists (952), & 15th All-Time in Points (1,503) in his 1,191 Games Played in 18 Seasons. His Goals Per Game Avg is 0.46%, Assist Per Game Avg is 0.80%, Points Per Game Avg is 1.26%, and his Games Play Per Season Avg is 66.
If he retires at 38, playing 20 Seasons, then that could add 132 more Games Played, totalling 1,323 Career Games Played. He'll probably score 60 Goals, totalling 611 Career Goals. He'll probably get 105 Assists, totalling 1,057 Career Assists. That'll come out to 165 Points, totalling 1,668 Career Points. Assuming he retires after his 20th Season and he puts up the Goals, Assists, and Points based on his Career Avg, then that'll get him ranked 18th All-Time in Career Regular Season Goals, 10th All-Time in Career Regular Season Assists, and 9th All-Time in Career Regular Season Points.
While those stats are incredible and incredibly difficult to achieve, it still won't hold the same weight as being ranked #1 All-Time in Career Regular Season Goals!
That's why Ovi's career will be more special!

  4. Crosby better overall career. But ovie breaking goal. Records is masterful. Id say equal

  5. What league-wide records does Crosby hold? If Ovechkin surpasses Gretzky's goal-scoring record, his career will be more memorable. Indeed, if Ovechkin breaks the all-time goal-scoring record, he will be a topic of conversation in the hockey world for years to come.

  6. Its been great watching these two compete over the years.
I am a Sid fan and believe he is "more special" due to his two way game, but even more special are his championships and gold medals. After all, winning is the name of the game.

  7. The only reason Ovi is the greatest goal scorer is bc Sidney was sidelined for so long and so many times with concussions that other players deliberately gave him 😂 if they weren’t playing dirty it was Sidney who was on his way to have that let’s be for real here.
