Josh Lucas unveils Khalil Mack trade process, talks Roquan Smith-vs.-Tremaine Edmunds & Ryan Pace

Former Bears director of player personnel Josh Lucas joined Danny Parkins to discuss a wide range of topics, including Chicago’s blockbuster acquisition of star edge rusher Khalil Mack back in 2018, whether Roquan Smith or Tremaine Edmunds is the better linebacker and the team’s philosophy under former general manager Ryan Pace.

  1. gotta say. the fact this guy was a major player in critical franchise decisions makes it all make sense. compare him with the guys making Cubs decisions under Hoyer. Bears need an Epstein to come in and clean house.

  2. So this is why Scouts are fired. 💯💯💯 They don't develop their own opinions just copy others. Lincoln Riley Usc Head Coach was Oklahoma HC, put Baker Mayfield and Bryce Young in Nfl as No 1 overall picks. Brock Purdy has the best footwork i seen, Caleb Williams is close. He's a System Quarterback. Brock Purdy, who, is in the Mvp race, is a Very Good Comp. He was also the last pick in the draft. If your getting Lincoln Riley, then maybe. That's 100mil for a Coach. Riley benched Rattler, who then went to a Pro System at South Carolina, and is very good. That actually shows Rattler is more a Nfl QB than Caleb Williams because he can play in Any system. Caleb Williams has to play in the Lincoln Riley system. 💯💯💯 So every Scout and Channel can pat themselves on the back and call him Andrew Luck. They haven't broke down the film, and that's scary. Is Caleb a 1st Rd QB? Yes, but you have to run the system he fits in. He does not transcend systems. Then they got QBu QBs 2 and 3. North Carolina and Duke players. Those are long term projects like Zach Wilson. The Duke kid may be worth a Mid 1st because his ceiling. Sanders is trained by Tom Brady, Runs a Pro System. Likely doesn't come out, if he does he should be QB1. The Mid Rd guys Late 1st through Rd 4 is where you attack QB this year. Idk that the Lsu kid comes out this year either. But Mich JJ McCarthy a Pro QB. If Healthy Washington may have QB1. Texas has a Very Good QB who pry gives you Cousins like play. Bo Nix Oregon.

  3. If JF balls out and Carolina sucks, this organization would be completely insane to not trade the 1st pick for an absolute haul. Like record breaking. Several NFL teams need a QB bad enough to trade everything to get a guy like Williams. Pretty much the holes on this current team could be plugged in one trade. On the other hand, if JF doesn’t work out, we have our next guy to continue the rebuild around

  4. That defense was probably one of the best all time. They were a double doink away from winning it all. I’ll defend pace on that trade everyday. His others not so much

  5. Urlacher said it best (when talking about Roquan) as a franchise why would you draft a guy in the first round, have him pan out to be one of the best, if not THE best linebacker in the league, and not pay him. Doesn’t make sense.

  6. I really disliked how often they traded up, I don't think their record with the players they traded up for is actually that bad, it's just I really disliked the Trubisky and Miller trades as they happened. Miller ended up being my least favorite Bears WR until they got Claypool (who I gave a chance, but more than earned it)

  7. You need him in every week. If you ever get him back in I’ve been thinking about this for years as a Pace fan, if they didn’t fire Pace that year who were some of the names they had scouted for that draft that they were high on?

  8. Aye im from outsouth they call me Oso😂 but fr doe i fw buddy he be on they ass i love it show em how the raq get down we got you don't sugercoat $hit

  9. 2:27 he sounds so bad at this job though. Like really bad. I want to know why they missed on so many players. "You think everyone wants your guy?" Why would you think that? Why don't you have your player profiles truncated, categorized, and like know what good football looks like? And the reasons you said before why you wouldn't pick certain QBs that will be a HOF'ER IS WILDDDDDDDDDD. I appreciate all this insight but it shows to me I'm not sure what this organization is looking at.

  10. The problem isn't the players they picked or how the players were obtained. It's the Bears organizat…wait Chicago spor…wait just Chicago that's has a loser mentality. It's sad to with the rich history the teams have.

  11. Danny Parkins keeps upping his game as one of the best radio guys. Period. The Josh Lucas interviews, wow. The candor and honesty this guy brings is off the charts. A+

  12. Can’t overpay for a great player but you definitely can for a “good” player *cough edmunds/yannik **cough*

    Mack – 6 sacks, 5 TFL, 2FFs in ONE GAME – Poles you’re fired.

Lose Singletary Jr in Smith, and trades Mack, loses Monty, O line is trash and has been always, how has EJ not left?

    Poles you’re fired

  13. This is powerful radio. Every time this gentleman is on I have to listen. It’s so much better than Bernstein and his liberal bullshit agenda.

  14. In 2017 the Bears drafted a QB, TE & running back…they ended up with Trubisky, Adam Shaheen & Cohen…they could've drafted Mahomes, Kamara & Kittle. Those moves are enough reason for this guy to be on the radio and not still running the team. 100% accurate assessment on Ro vs Edmunds. They're NOT CLOSE and letting Roquan go was a miss

  15. You guys haven’t gotten tired of the conviction part??? He’s part of the reason why the bears are where the bears are

  16. Ok, Caleb Williams has said he doesn’t want to go to the Bears, if the Bears has the 1st pick & want Caleb, he will go back to school, he says he doesn’t need the money, he’s currently making $3mil in College, Now his dad is saying who ever drafts him he wants partial owner of that team??? WTFK 🤔🤔🤔🤔

  17. Whoever is in charge of your camerawork, should be fired. Neither camera is focused on the two men.

  18. He lost me when he said they would let go of Fields. The kid has shown time and again his potential. Yes he has areas to develop. We have seen, though, what can happen if he has weapons that can get open. Drafting Caleb over getting MHJ would be terrible move for this franchise. Keep with the rebuild. Trust the process.

  19. If this dude wasn’t as transparent he would not be of any consequence to Bears fans cuz he’s a branch from the Pace tree and they did a horrific job at roster building with the amount of $ they spent and for taking Trubisky over Mahomes who even in college looked better imo. And to say these guys had “conviction” for a 5ft-4” RB is borderline insanity

  20. Very interesting to hear their thoughts and reasoning. He is acknowledging he made a lot of mistakes like giving away too many draft picks.

  21. Josh is one of the easiest people to listen to. These segments are my favorite thing The Score does right now. Loving it.

  22. Toughest questions I’ve seen him face yet. Danny turning up the heat a bit. And Josh handled it well. I doubt Pace would admit to mistakes so easily.
